  • Peaceful and scenic site with stunning views over Cardigan bay
  • Five minutes’ walk from Borth beach and the Ceredigion Coast Path
  • Self check-in with lockbox for hassle-free arrivals at any time
Quiet days overlooking Cardigan Bay, with the Cambrian mountains dominating the horizon and the nearest sandy beach less than five minutes’ stroll away… Yes, please? You’re in luck – that’s exactly what's on offer at Y-Fron Caravan Park, a family-friendly site in the Ceredigion village of Borth. This is a top spot for hols: beach days are simple as the three-mile stretch of Borth beach – and its swimming, fishing and watersports – is an easy stroll from base, ramblers and hikers can pick up the Ceredigion Coast Path from the village, and the pretty Victorian seaside resort of Aberystwyth (with its scenic harbour, castle and cliff railway) is just 15 minutes’ drive along the coast. Anyone in need of a few days’ peace and quiet should settle in here nicely. It’s not too busy and doesn’t have the hustle of other sites – if you feel the need for a bit more social time guests at Y-Fron have access to the facilities at sister site Brynrodyn (a five-minute drive or 15-minute walk), where there’s a café-bar with spectacular views over the bay, and music, dancing and competitions in the evenings. Not sure of your travel itinerary yet? No worries. Check-in uses a lockbox for key storage, so guests have complete freedom if arriving out of hours.

Local attractions

Outdoorsy types are particularly well served hereabouts: as well as being within easy reach of the Ceredigion Coast Path, the site’s less than half an hour’s drive from the edge of Snowdonia National Park, which puts hiking, biking, riding and climbing on the menu. The trails and mountain biking tracks of Cadair Idris are about 40 minutes away, too, for anyone who wants to start big. If active tastes hew more towards the sea, a 45-minute journey around the Dovey Estuary (as far as Aberdovey) is essential: the beaches here are well-known for a host of watersports, from sailing and yachting to kitesurfing, windsurfing and paddleboarding. Any twitchers reading? Now, don’t get in a flap, but there are some attractions nearby that might lead to joyful chirping… Within 20 minutes of base are the Ynys-Hir RSPB reserve (one-time home of the Beeb’s Springwatch) and the Dyfi Osprey Project, so be sure to pack those binoculars. For anyone more into plants than animals (or perhaps both?), a trip 10 minutes down the road to Ynyslas National Nature Reserve is a must. There are plenty of rare and exotic plants to spot, as well as the sunken ancient forest that only shows itself at low tide and some top-notch sand dunes.
