Communal firepit

  • Peaceful Ceredigion site with sea views and friendly farm animals
  • A mile from the Wales Coast Path; five minutes' drive to Aberaeron
  • Well-equipped shared kitchen and communal firepit on site
There’s a warm welcome for all guests at Arth Valley Retreat – not just from the owners, but also members of the menagerie that lives on this Ceredigion ex-dairy farm. There aren’t any cows on site any more, but the pigs, sheep, chickens and pygmy goats are a friendly bunch, with many of them being happy to receive a stroke from the guests. When you’ve greeted everyone suitably, you’ll be able to take in the lovely views around this site – pitches look out over the Arth Valley in one direction and the coastline of Cardigan Bay in the other. On a fine day, you may be able to see as far as the peaks of Snowdonia. Sizeable marked-out pitches mean you’ll have plenty of space to take it all in; a picnic table is set up on each pitch and you’ll be able to bring an awning or gazebo to get your space just as you like it. The modern toilet/shower block is a short stroll from the pitches, and has various essentials provided (not just loo roll and hand soap but also body wash and shampoo). Much effort has gone into making sure guests don’t have to cart loads of things along on a stay here – the shared kitchen has pans, utensils and various things like oil and salt, and there’s an honesty shop for things like logs, kindling and charcoal. These are things you’ll need for an evening by the communal firepit, which often becomes a sociable place for chats and a bit of music. This is a lovely base for exploring the Ceredigion coast – it’s a mile from the sea and the Wales Coast Path, with Aberaeron and Aberarth about five minutes’ drive away and New Quay 20 minutes.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Amazing views and not over crowded at all. Limited spaces which is nice. Host very easy to contact and happy to help. Loads of space to explore within farm, Waterfall at the very bottom is amazing. Toilets and showers spot on.

Disliked: Toilet doors slightly tight and difficult for younger ones.

Fenced non-electric grass tent pitch (pet friendly)

Liked: Staff were friendly and our toddler loved the farm vehicles backing and towing and one morning we even woke up to some goats on the field near us! Facilities were good and the communal kitchen area was a kind touch. We opted for the gated pitch which was ideal as our dog gets nervous and can be a bit barkyso she felt safe in the pitch. Lovely stay

Fenced non-electric grass tent pitch (pet friendly)

Liked: Warm and friendly welcome when we called upon arrival - thanks Sean. Love the goats! Great amenities. Definitely return.

Disliked: We booked a fenced in pitch, because we have a slightly reactive dog. The only two fenced pitches are next to each other - would be better if they were apart - as our neighbours also had a reactive dog, that they felt ok to just leave off lead wandering the campsite.....

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Beautiful surroundings and views. Friendly, helpful hosts. Good facilities and nice added touches - like fresh coffee and dog biscuits! Great location with 20 minute walk to the beach (uphill on the way back!) and quick to drive to other coastal day trips. Very family and dog friendly.

Disliked: The squelchy fields! Can’t be helped due to the weather but would have been tricky to park on hard standing if the site had been really busy as all pitches are grass. Take wellies.
