General

  • Well-maintained park near Killin, with direct access to the A827
  • A five-minute drive from Loch Tay and 20 minutes from Loch Earn
  • Well-equipped kitchens and barbecues provided; pub two miles away

Fresh air, Highland views and greenery all around – you've got to hand it to the folks at Killin Highland Lodges, this is a pretty smashing spot. Rural ramblers heading here will likely appreciate the park's easy access to nearby lochs and hillsides, while the plush lodge interiors and lovingly landscaped grounds are bound to be a draw for pretty much anyone looking for cosy Scottish breaks.

This site is located about two miles (that's five minutes' drive, thanks to the speedy A827) from the centre of Killin, home to a range of shops, pubs and the white waters of the Falls of Dochart. Visiting golf fans may also be tempted to indulge in a round or two at Killin Golf Club (feel free to hire equipment when paying your green fees if you're a newbie or don't fancy lugging your kit around).

In terms of food prep, all the park's accommodation comes with a well-appointed kitchen, while those looking to cook outdoors can take advantage of the barbecue area. Fancy a night off washing-up duty? Both pub food and fine dining options are available in Killin. And now for a fact that's sure to get tails wagging: guests travelling with pets are welcome here.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Lodges were a good size and had all amenities .
The area is great - there's a lovely walk up the hill from the back of the site - and its convenient for Killin and Loch Tay.
In terms of Covid-19 - the staff seemed to have a great system in place for ensuring safety.

    Disliked:

We didn't realise from the website that they were "a terrace" - all joined together so you were fairly close to your neighbours.
The lodge we stayed in was a little dated - but the owner said they were in the process of upgrading them.

From the manager...

Hi Gary,
I'm glad you had an enjoyable stay and appreciated the cleanliness of the lodge, location and management. The birds nesting above the door on the lodge you stayed in are Swallows and they return to the same nesting site every year and these birds have legal protection when nesting. As a lodge park that actively supports and encourages nature, we don't want to discourage these birds from returning each year to nest (and many of our returning loyal guests who are nature lovers would have something to say about that prospect!). We wouldn't consider this to be a problem per se, more something to expect when holidaying at certain times of the year in a rural setting and selecting a type of building where Swifts, Swallows and House Martines are prone to select for nesting. It's very common and we have in fact six Swift and House Martin nests where we live also. I'm sorry this element of 'nature at work' meant you didn't enjoy your lodge experience fully, but we do appreciate you taking the time to post a review.
All the best,

Local attractions

Killin Highland Lodges is located a few yards from the boundary of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, so it's a breeze to get out into some splendid scenery. Loch Tay is also less than five minutes' drive away: head to the local sailing club (20 minutes) for nearby aquatic adventure, or tour the equally serene surrounds of Loch Earn (20 minutes) and Loch Voil (30 minutes).

Mountaineers and hill walkers are also well served hereabouts, but if you only have time for one hike, make it the Meall nan Tarmachan mountain ridge. The ascent isn't as arduous as it looks from afar, especially if you set off from Ben Lawers visitor centre (20 minutes). That said, you won't want to be caught out in flip flops here: a fair bit of scrambling is in order if you want to walk the full length of the trail.

For history buffs and curious kids, the Scottish Crannog Centre (25 minutes) has a life-size mock-up of an Iron Age settlement: head here for guided tours, ancient music demos and all manner of outdoorsy crafts. For a spot of natural history, swing by Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre (40 minutes).

Must see

  • Gleneagles, PGA Centenary (25.5 miles)
  • Blair Castle (26.4 miles)
  • National Wallace Monument (28.0 miles)
