  • Family-run park near the western end of Loch Tay
  • Loch Earn and Loch Lomond within an hour's drive
  • Laundry room, play area and picnic tables; dogs welcome
Set in quiet countryside near the western end of Loch Tay and five minutes' drive from the edge of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park – and around 50 minutes from Loch Lomond itself – Cruachan Farm Caravan and Camping Park is a family-run site in a great position for sightseeing around the southern Highlands and central Scotland. Whatever kind of accommodation you opt for, you'll have access to a smart and spacious park with well-maintained amenities like a toilet and shower block, a laundry room, a kids' play area and picnic benches. The site is well under a mile from the banks of Loch Tay and close to lots of other outdoor attractions: clay pigeon shooting, tennis, watersports, birdwatching and tracking down ancient burial sites are all popular pastimes you can get up to in the local area. It's also a 15 minutes' walk from Loch Tay Highland Lodges, where guests are welcome to use the facilities. Cruachan Farm Caravan and Camping Park is a five-minute drive to the east of Killin, a scenic spot with a castle, pubs, a supermarket and waterside walks around the gorgeous Falls of Dochart.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (five person)

Liked: Stayed here for a couple of days the site has some spectacular scenery with a nice short trek through the woods down to loch Tay. The local village of killin was lovely. The out of hours site management was super friendly in helping us work out where to camp it was clearly sign posted to who call with numbers and when things are open. It does have some hill parts to the camp site but that doesn’t matter to us for those less able to walk the way in with a car was fine and there is plenty of scope for more flat parts to camp on. The shower facilities were clean and tidy they are slightly dated but to be honest I don’t care about that sort of thing for us we just appreciate a clean space to shower in the added bonus of laundry and sinks to do washing up I was good. Very quiet campsite all the other campers were friendly and respectful. There does seem to be a cafe on site unsure if this was open as we were out from early to late exploring the surrounding areas but the local village has plenty to offer in terms of food and supplies. Would definitely return.

Disliked: I didn’t really find any negatives to be honest.

Electric grass tent pitch (five person)

Liked: The views.

Disliked: The reception staff were not very friendly, no attemt at any pleasentries, name , your on pitch so and so, put this tag on your tent, here`s a map, your pitch is here, goodbye. Although my pitch was level the ground is very sloping. There was a bad toilet smell coming from an outlet to the shower and toilet block which wafted up to my tent every now and then. The t&s block is rather dated with a filthy mop and bucket for you to clean the shower with. The blue rubbish bin was overflowing from the first day until i left on the fourth day. The "path" to the lake is 3 inches deep with mud and water in places, surely some boards could be placed over the worst bits, we dont all bring wellies with us.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (five person)

Liked: Toilets very clean, staff very friendly, great walk on campsite to loch.

Disliked: The ground is not flat and lots of slopes so very difficult to find a good spot. No allocated pitches either so a bit of a free for all.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Rachael, Thank you for your review I am happy of your mention of our team as they do work hard to ensure our guests all have an enjoyable stay. The site is situation on a hill so there are different places to camp, We do not allocate pitches so people can choose which are works best for them and their tent. Hope to see you again.

Local attractions

Starting locally, Killin Castle (five minutes' drive) is definitely a landmark to explore. While here, wander down past the pretty waters at the Falls of Dochart (five minutes) and keep an eye out for wildlife. Killin Golf Club (also five minutes) is a well-liked course with nine scenic landscaped holes to try, while just a little further away at Ben Lawers Dam (10 minutes) you can get a close-up view of one of Scotland's highest Munros. After exploring Loch Tay and the local area, it's a short enough drive to Loch Tay (20 minutes), where plenty of watersports and hiking trails are on offer. The village of Aberfoyle (an hour away) is very popular with off-road cyclists who appreciate its miles of well-maintained gravel tracks, and there's also a forest park with Go Ape, a visitor centre and a hide where beady-eyed visitors may spot red squirrels among the trees. For more heritage sights, try Castle Menzies (30 minutes), an imposing 16th-century clan seat, or Stirling Castle (an hour and 10 minutes), one of the most important and impressive historic buildings in Scotland.
