  • Back-to-basics pop-up campsite on a working East Lothian arable farm
  • The Museum of Flight, Gullane golf clubs and beach 10 minutes’ drive
  • Off-grid grass pitches and dog walk on site; shop five minutes’ drive
When you’re looking for your next no-frills Scottish camping adventure, have a look at Ballencrieff Farm Campsite, a simple sort of affair five minutes’ drive from the shops and pubs of Longniddry in East Lothian. The grass pitches have utilised a hitherto unused triangular field in a quiet corner of a busy arable farm (expect to see tractors about the place and to hear some farming noise), and are admirably suited to anyone looking for an off-grid camping experience in stunning countryside. The campsite is on a grass field without marked pitches, so campers can choose where to set up on arrival. As it’s a pop-up site, there is no running water or waste collection on site. You can bring your own water in or buy five-litre bottles once here – handy for those of you arriving on foot or by bike. There are also two portable loos on the camping field, and a walkway around the perimeter of the farm where you can walk your dogs. Simple and back-to-basics this site may be, but it certainly packs a sightseeing punch, being close to east-coast beaches, museums and ancient Roman ruins.

What customers say

A proper back-to-basics spot with loads of room and a peaceful vibe. Toilets are spotless, hosts are sound and it's great value. Perfect for a short break. Some reckon the road/train noise is a bit much, and a few miss running water, but others say it's grand for no-frills.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great little campsite, not very busy which was great for us and there is an abundance of bunnies and a few hedgehogs that gave us a visit. Very clean toilets and also bins. Great location too.

Disliked A bit noisy from the traffic and train but you soon get used to that.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Nice level pitch plenty of space, toilets(porta loos) looked like they had been delivered straight from the factory, great communication pre arrival,

Also nice to watch the bunny's run around playing in the morning

Disliked Only issue id say is its only a pop up site and only open a short time as would definitely stay at other times of year if it was available, however being a working farm I understand thats not possible
