  • Quiet site five miles from Edinburgh Airport
  • Shopping locally at Livingston Designer Outlet
  • Next to a country park and the Union Canal
East Calder is calling – and how easily accessible it all is. The county's Linwater Caravan Park is within a five-mile drive of Edinburgh Airport (nip up for the weekend, perhaps?) and is next to the trunk roads of the M8 and M9 – thus making it straightforward to stop over here on your way to and fro north or south. But you'd also be well placed to stay a bit longer. Linwater's in a countryside location, right next to Almondell and Calderwood Country Park and the Union Canal (for tiptop towpath strolls) and is also a short drive from the Pentland Hills Regional Park. The Edinburgh International Climbing Arena is only a mile away. All at Linwater is ably run by Katie and Alaistair, who've added a toilet block including a disabled loo, showers, a dishwashing area, laundry facilities and waste disposal for tourers and motorhomes.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked: Level pitches, plenty room for awning and car too. Toilet and shower block was beautiful and very clean. Shop was well stocked and staff were very friendly. Quiet and peaceful, lovely shared cooking/dishes facilities.

Disliked: Not a dislike but for information purposes, some of the pitches were quite snug for reversing a caravan in to.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Located just down the road from the Park & Ride for easy access into Edinburgh. Second time we've stayed and again it was lovely and quiet/peaceful. Welcomed by the lovely lady on reception and they have a very handy shop for anyone who's forgot to pack an essential. Lovely new shower block since we last visited (2020) which was lovely and clean and very well kept.

Disliked: We'd forgot that the camp is situated close to the airport so you do get planes taking off until around midnight (which didn't bother us). However they start at 6.00 a.m. so if your a light sleeper- be warned.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Wonderfully friendly welcome, easy to find and great facilities. Very convenient for a night stay before returning motorhome to rental depot half an hour away.

Disliked: Not so much a ‘dislike’ but other users may like to know that the pitches adjacent to the road are noisier, and when the westerly runway at Edinburgh airport is in use it’s a rude awakening at 6am! Couldn’t get WiFi.

Local attractions

Linwater Caravan Park's locale means you're well set for both countryside and city days, or to break up a journey on your way north or south. Around the area, a mile away in a disused quarry is the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena, with the biggest indoor climbing wall in the world (well worth tackling for the boasting rights gained for afterwards, one might suggest). The towpath walks of the Union Canal are nearby and the shows and exhibitions of the Royal Highland Showground are within four miles. You can also easily drive to the Kelpies, the biggest horsey structures on the planet, and to the Falkirk Wheel, the boat lift connecting the Union and the Forth and Clyde canals.
