  • Luxury site five miles from the outdoor activities of Fort William
  • Surrounded by spectacular scenery
  • Baths and adventure playgrounds
Off to the Highlands for outdoor pursuits? Flocking to Fort William to climb Ben Nevis, pick your way up sheets of ice, have a hill walk or hurtle down a mountain on a bike? More power to your padded elbow – you’ve picked quite the place. Fort William calls itself ‘the outdoor capital of the UK’ and has all sorts of sporty options on offer, from hair-raising ice climbing and whitewater rafting to quad biking and snowboarding; if the thought of these is making you a little faint, there are plenty of placid pursuits round these here parts too. Either way, you’ll be looking for a luxury berth to come back to, so hightail it to the centre of the Highlands and Linnhe Lochside Holidays, a four-star park five miles from Fort William. There’s stunning scenery around Loch Eil and the surrounding mountains, hedges and shrubs set around to support local wildlife, and a particularly impressive private beach with free fishing and boat launch… The park amenities include baths for those who might have staggered down sore-muscled from Ben Nevis, a launderette, a drying room and wifi across the entire park with free access for the chalets. Toddlers have their own playroom and there are adventure playgrounds for the bigger folk (no, not parents: presumably you’ll be burning off your energy ice-climbing instead).

Liked: Beautiful quiet, safe park. Incredibly clean and well serviced park. Plenty of toilet and wash areas which out of all the parks we have been this has been to the highest of standards. Very quiet park with lovely beach and kids play parks. We felt safe enough to let our kids play around in the park with their bikes. The staff were all very friendly. Great location to local attractions. WiFi worked really well, The park layout worked well as every level had a nice view. We will definitely be back. 5star for us without any hesitation.

Disliked: Nothing, park was perfect.

Liked: Absolutely amazing views from our pitch. Fantastic walk available along the beach of the loch. Sunsets here in september are right up the middle of the view out over the water. Facilities were very well managed and adequate. Plenty of toilets, showers and basins all in separate cubicles. Beautiful gardening work everywhere, that was stunning. We enjoyed our stay here very much. Solid very level pitches and a full variety of lets from large static to small tents, everyone is catered for. I would visit here when again. Ideally located for all the Fort William attractions but far enough away to think you are in the middle of nowhere 👍

Disliked: Going home 😁

Non-electric grass tent pitch (backpacker, two person)

Liked: Stunning Lochside location, with all the facilities you could need, and in easy reach of Glencoe. Brilliant bathrooms, a quaint washing up area, and additional fun watching the Jacobite train steam right past. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Loved this campsite !

Disliked: Nada. Perhaps slightly closer drinking water from where we were (but I might just have not seen it)

Liked: Gorgeous little place! Easy to check in. Easy to find. All well signed to find your pitch. Beautiful scenery. All amenities were well maintained and clean. Shower was lovely. We were early to bed after a very long drive and there wasn't a peep of noise after 8.30pm even though it was fully booked. Runs like magic..... We didn't see a single member of staff (in our one night stay) but the place is impeccable and lovely! Impressive!

Route directions

From junction 10 on the M9 motorway at Stirling, turn left onto the A84, following the signs for Callander, Crianlarich and Fort William (A85 and A82). The site is about 5 miles from Fort William. To get there, continue on the A82 for about 2 miles in the direction of Inverness. At the traffic lights and mini roundabout (next to the BP garage), turn left. Follow the directions to Corpach and Mallaig on the A830. Go past Corpach village for about 1 mile until you see a big signpost and the entrance on the left-hand side. From Fort William station you can jump into a taxi (usually about £10) or on a bus (destination Corpach). Buses run every 20 mins throughout the day and every hour or so in the evening. From Corpach bus stop it is a walk of about a mile. There is also a local bus (Shiel Buses) which operates from Corpach Village; however it only runs three times a day, each way. It will pick up or drop off outside the park entrance. Fort William has regular coach and rail connections from most major UK towns.

Local attractions

Activities on land, sea and in air are the order of the day in Fort William and the Highlands, with almost every outdoor adrenaline-focused activity possible catered for. Get an overview of it all at the Nevis Range Mountain Centre, which has high wires, snow sports, the Mountain Bike World Cup each summer, and the country’s only mountain gondola for scenic sights. More sedately, the glens around this area are prime fishing spots to land brown trout and Atlantic salmon, and there are mackerel and herring shoals off the coast. If you’re new to the art, local excursion companies provide all tackle, training and equipment. Go out on the water less hair-raisingly than in a raft or kayak with a cruise down Loch Linnhe, on the Sound of Sleat, on the Caledonian Canal or down Loch Shiel to Acharacle. There are boat trips from Fort William pier to Seal Island and its breeding colony of grey seals, with seal spotting and birdwatching trips available from several other nearby islands including Skye, Craigleith and Colonsay. Within an hour, beachcombers can reach the famed silver sands of Morar; look out for Nessie’s cousin Morag at nearby Loch Morar. Several indoor activity centres and attractions are within easy reach too for rainy days: that ice-climbing can be had at The Ice Factor in Kinlochleven, or see how Highlanders used to live at the living history Highland Folk Museum at Newtonmore (there’s a West Highlands Museum in Fort William too). The Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary at Oban and the Kincraig Wildlife Park at Kingussie are both just over an hour’s drive away, or take a stroll to the award-winning Treasures of the Earth a mile and a half away from Linnhe Lochside Holidays with its caves displaying crystals, gemstones and fossils. (Grownup concerns can be met by a tour of the Ben Nevis Distillery.) Loch Ness, the Isle of Skye and the other Hebridean islands are all easily reachable for day trips, and Inverness is about an hour and a half’s drive away. For golf – another Scottish essential – four golf courses are around Lochaber and Fort William, all in seriously scenic locations: Fort William, Spean Bridge, Traigh and Fort Augustus on the shore of Loch Ness.
