  • Spacious back to basics pitches at a quiet Dumfries and Galloway farm
  • Less than a mile from the coast; 20 minutes' drive to Wigtown
  • Farm shop on site with homemade ice cream and fresh flavoured milks
Spacious pitches, lovely rural views, beaches nearby – oh, and homemade ice cream for sale on site… yes, you could certainly say that Balnab Farm has a lot going for it. This Dumfries and Galloway site is part of a working dairy farm, so your neighbours around the place will mainly be farm animals – not just cows but also sheep, goats, Shetland ponies and rare breed pigs. You’ll have the chance to meet them as you stroll around the place, and also to sample some of their produce at the site’s small farm shop, which sells pasteurised fresh whole milk, flavoured milks and eggs alongside coffees and sweet and savoury snacks (plus those delicious ice creams, of course…) There’s more excellent food in the surrounding area – particularly in the local villages of Garlieston and Isle of Whithorn (both within 10 minutes’ drive). Working up an appetite for it all might involve a visit to Scotland’s National Booktown, Wigtown (20 minutes’ drive away) or some time spent exploring the coast. As it’s on a peninsula, the farm is surrounded by the sea on three sides, meaning that quiet sandy beaches and seaside villages are never far away. It’s a back to basics setup at Balnab Farm – with no access to toilets, showers, running water or electricity – so you’ll need to be fairly self sufficient for a stay here.
