  • Indoor pool, sports activities, restaurant, games room and playground
The residents of Saltcoats, a historic harbour town on the west coast of Scotland, used to spend the night in 'salt cots', hence the place’s name. Luckily, these days there are better facilities for a sojourn close to the town’s handsome beach, such as Ayrshire's Sandylands Holiday Park. Guests can swim, splash and snorkel their way around the indoor pool or get stuck into some of the organised sports activities on site, and there are also kids’ clubs for children up to 11, featuring the usual Parkdean Resorts group characters of the Starland Krew. In the evenings, the Buccaneers Showbar runs theme nights, competitions and family shows, with live bands and cabarets regularly making an appearance to get toes tapping. For easy access to the surrounding area, a railway line runs adjacent to the holiday park – very nifty for visiting Glasgow, Ayr, Largs and beyond.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Easy to find and handy for us catching ferry.
Facilities - toilets and showers were kept clean by nice friendly staff. The railway wasn't too noisy surprisingly.
Level pitches.

Disliked: The security checking procedure prior to arrival was particularly onerous for a UK campsite
Touring pitches adjacent to a well used railway line.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Nothing. Facilities shabby and cold. Advertised as dog friendly but this turned out to be in your accommodation only (we have a vw camper) so could not make use of any of the facilities I.e. restaurant for dinner or breakfast.

Disliked: Everything - booked for two nights but only stayed for one.
Next to a caravan with their filth everywhere.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The cafe for breakfast

Disliked: Bridge closed to beach, 1 mile walk to next bridge in town. Site sandwiched between abattoir and railway line. Ok as only one night on way to Arran ferry.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Everyone seemed friendly

Disliked: The site needs some investment. The shower block was tired and very dirty. The pitches were right next to the railway line. The site advertised it was close to the beach but the bridge over the railway was condemned so we couldn’t get there. Price was it was more expensive than some really nice we’ve stayed on.

Local attractions

The landscapes in this part of Ayrshire are stunning, so it’s no surprise that some of the country’s most famed championship golf courses, including Prestwick, Royal Troon and Turnberry, can be found in the area. As the birthplace of Robert Burns, Ayrshire is also rich in cultural attractions and museums relating to Scotland’s national poet. It’s easy to hop aboard the nearby ferry at Ardrossan for a day trip across the Firth of Clyde to Arran – the journey usually takes less than an hour and passengers regularly see dolphins during the crossing. Arran has miles of beautiful forest and coastal walks, more great golf courses, and attractions such as Brodick Castle and the Arran Heritage Museum to explore. The railway line that passes Sandylands Holiday Park also runs a limited service to the likes of Glasgow and Ayr, should visitors fancy exploring the area by train.
