  • Swish spa and leisure resort on the eastern shores of Loch Fyne
  • A 40-minute drive from Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park
  • Cycle hire, fitness centre, indoor and outdoor pools, play area
Bag yourself a blissful break at Portavadie Loch Fyne, a spa and leisure resort on the shores of a lake in a part of the Scottish Highlands known as the ‘Secret Coast’. It’s an all-season spot with glorious views, a heated infinity pool looking out over the water, and first-rate marina facilities. The site also has restaurants, bars, shops… and an intriguing backstory. It sits on a bit of land in Argyll that was originally earmarked to become an oil rig construction facility but was never used. Nowadays, it’s a swish resort designed to appeal to all sorts of travellers, from families and couples to hikers and sailors. Spend days dipping in and out of the indoor and outdoor pools, breaking up the aquatic activities by exercising in the fitness centre, or cycling on local forest trails using one of the hired bikes. Jaunts in the car could include drives around the lush lake in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park (40 minutes). Alternatively, stick to the site and fish on the loch or birdwatch – guests have been known to glimpse buzzards, otters and golden eagles sparking through the skies. Keen-eyed visitors have spotted basking sharks out in the water too. For beach days, the sandy sweep of Ostel Bay is a 15-minute drive.

What customers say

Beautiful loch views and top-notch modern facilities, including a much-loved spa and pool. Staff are always friendly and helpful. While showers and toilets are praised for cleanliness, some mention a long walk from pitches. Restaurant food generally good but can be pricey. Remote spot with narrow access roads, and watch out for midges.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked Great facilities, incredible views, peaceful. A hidden little gem of a place. I visited the Tighnabruaich Gallery which is mentoring some of Scotland’s amazing emerging artists and showing their work. It is a must to visit if you are in the area. It was the highlight of my visit alongside my usual walking and swimming. ☀️☀️

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked The campervan site is within the Portavadie Sailing complex and has access to excellent showers and laundry facilities. Power and water both on the same stantion so really handy for filling kettles. Waste water disposal close by. Great views across to the Mull of Kintyre. Booking for the pool and other activities on site such as bike hire is advisable.

Disliked Expensive restaurant but take away pizza and other items can be orders.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked Shower facilities nice and modern though were busy (only 4 showers) and had to queue. However this may be unusual - 3 yachts from Ellen MacArthur Trust were there so lots of teenagers needing showers!
Pizza take-away eaten upstairs on restaurant veranda was very tasty with great view of marina and Loch.

Disliked The Campervan site is quite far from the main building with the toilet facilities and down a steep hill. This is quite tricky for people with reduced mobility - this should be highlighted in the information at booking. The site is a carpark type area with no features other than numbered pitch signs.
We were unable to empty grey water tank due to the steep slope of the road which the drain was on.

If you are planning to eat out, drinks and food are very expensive.
No lift to allow disabled access to the upper floor of restaurant and veranda.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked Not excessively large site, so fairly quiet. Excellent views from the motorhome pitch. Clean modern restaurant, with good food at a reasonable price. toilet and shower facilties modern and clean.

Disliked Motorhome drive-over grey water disposal point is on a steep slope, difficult to drain the tank without parking sideways-on and partly blocking the road

Local attractions

There’s plenty on site to keep you occupied, but for days out and about head to historical structures such as the ruined Mac Ewen Castle fort (20 minutes) or the medieval Royal Castle of Tarbet (40 minutes) stronghold, then round off adventures the Scottish way with a dram or two at the Whisky West Coast distillery (40 minutes). Those eager to explore a touch further afield could bound over to the Isle of Bute (an hour and 15 minutes) for ambles around the Art Deco and Victorian architecture of palm-lined Rothesay, a town that's rather incongruously known for having some of the best public toilets in the nation. Walks are fab on Bute too – head north for strolls through a heather-strewn landscape. Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park (40 minutes) is just as scenic a destination. Wander among handsome hills and glens or find a spot to relax by one of the many lakes before pausing in Dunoon (50 minutes), one of the Firth of Clyde’s main resort towns, to take in the Victorian pier and rummage in the craft shops and galleries.
