Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: We really enjoyed our stay at Adare camping and caravan park. The staff were friendly and kind. The facilities were clean and tidy. The location is good, very quiet at night. The caravan park is located near beautiful historical town. There is jacuzzi at the caravan site, so you can relax there. We would definitely recommend this caravan park to our friends.

Liked: This site is one of the best we have stayed on. Have been on camping holidays for the past 24 years. Excellent site.

Disliked: Booked through pitchup. I had to pay the full amount weeks in advance of arrival. I wanted to use a different credit card but the LINK was not working, so had to pay the bank exchange rate (which would have been avoided with a different card) The owner of the site was more than happy for me to pay balance on arrival but pitchup beat me to it. In all my years of camping I have never had to pay in full before arrival.

Liked: Loved the friendly, polite young woman at the check in office. Incredibly helpful and quick to offer assistance. Camping area gorgeous, lay out incredibly well thought out and protected from the wind. Hot tub was a great inclusion for reasonable price, and clean! Would have loved to used it after dark to enjoy full effects, highly recommend paying the 6 euro per head. Toilet area clean and showers very cheap to use in comparison to other camp sites used this week. Overall a very enjoyable stay!

Disliked: Only issue was lack of bar within easy walking distance. Staff eager to give directions to closest town.

Electric optional grass tent pitch (medium)

Liked: Location Access to facilities Access to hot tub Secure Washing/drying facilities on site Free places to charge phones Relatively bright Able to keep car beside tent

Disliked: Due to circumstances outside of our control we arrived late and the owner wasn't overly accommodating. Rules of the campsite not clear on om the website and only displayed in small print beside the toilets - we got in trouble for making a mistake but at that stage we were unaware of this specific rule - otherwise we would have had no issues about it. Facilities in the kitchen were adequate but it could do with more general cleaning (not expecting too much from a campsite), extremely foul smell in the fridge, food that was left by previous campers was literally growing. Loads of wasps but this is probably something outside of the owners control

Local attractions

Eminently attractive Adare is one of Ireland's designated Heritage Towns and has plenty of shops and restaurants to sustain visitors on a snapshotting wander. There are two golf courses, a pitch and putt and the remains of three abbeys to wander around too; a playground is on the village outskirts. Slightly further afield, take to the water at Killalow, a lakeside town with cabin cruisers and other boats; tackle go-karting at Kilcornar; flit to the flying boat museum at Foynes, or explore the walks and bike rides of Curraghchase Forest Park between Adare and Askeaton (Arthurian fans: Tennyson claimed to have seen the Lady of the Lake here). The Grange stone circle, the biggest in Ireland, is near Lough Gur, between the Limerick towns of Herbertstown and Bruff. Or take a day in Limerick City, former home of Frank McCourt of Angela's Ashes fame, River Shannon boat tours, King John's Castle, Limerick City Museum and quite a large amount of nightlife: bop along to Dolan's Warehouse for some of the city's best live music gigs.
