Camping pitches for tents

  • Family-friendly camping on a farm 10 minutes’ drive from Ballycastle
  • Giant’s Causeway half an hour’s drive; Cushendun Beach 15 minutes
  • Play area and mini golf on a dark skies site with grazing livestock
Here’s the chance to spend quality time outdoors with loved ones, with loads of space to roam and for kids to play. Want to experience rural life on a working hill farm? The folks running the family campsite at Watertop Farm, 10 minutes’ drive from Ballycastle in County Antrim have been welcoming guests for more than 30 years, so they must be doing something right. They’re doing absolutely everything right as it turns out. For starters: fully serviced pitches with hot showers, a play area, monster slide and mini-golf course for kids, and lots of cuddly livestock to befriend, plus safe off-road paths around the farm for campers to explore. Having said that, if you’re looking for party nights, kids’ clubs and TVs in your tent, this site is possibly not your cup of tea... On the other hand, if you’re after spectacular coast and hill views, and traffic-free hiking or biking routes amid forests, waterfalls and mountains, you’re definitely in the right place. As a couple of added bonuses, you’re pretty much guaranteed quiet nights of sound sleep in the peaceful north-coast countryside, and thanks to the lack of light pollution hereabouts, on clear nights you can spot a gazillion stars twinkling up above.

What customers say

Watertop Farm: A grand, tranquil rural getaway with top-notch facilities. Visitors rave about the clean showers, ample pitches, and gorgeous views. It's a brilliant spot for families, with a fantastic play area and loads of farm animals. Perfect for exploring the Causeway Coast. Some minor quibbles about older facilities and the odd midge, but most want to come back!

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked This was our first visit to Watertop Farm and it won’t be our last. From beginning to end there was a real warm, friendly and welcoming feel. Patsy is a gentleman, always willing to give his time to educate me and my 3 small children about farm life, now and in past times.
The farm itself is beautiful, very authentic and the fire lit each evening in the cottage for campers to gather and chat around was such a nice touch.
The area is well maintained, very clean and excellent showering facilities. The camp ground was lovely and perfect for kids. The play area was a big hit with lots to entertain the children, especially the monster slide which was homemade, again showing the thought and consideration given to campers staying here. The waterfall is stunning, much better than Glenariff and right on the doorstep! My kids enjoyed seeing all the animals and the freedom they had here.

The location is excellent, so close to so many beautiful places yet a feeling of being remote.
Thank you for a lovely experience.

Liked We loved the variety of animals and activities on the farm.

Disliked The shower was low-pressure and with little hot water, though this may have been due to the late hour. The jackdaw dawn chorus at 5am was a bit raucous!

Liked Watertop Farm is an ideal campsite for exploring County Antrim and the Causeway Coast.
The pitches are spacious, with electric hook-up available, and we enjoyed lovely views over the forest from the camping paddock area.
The campsite is family- and pet-friendly, with plenty of space for everyone to enjoy. Its location is ideal, with many attractions along the Causeway Coast and Antrim coastline within a 30-minute drive. A great base for exploring this beautiful part of Northern Ireland.

Local attractions

Hikers should definitely pack their walking boots; there are a myriad routes close by, ranging from the soaring cliffs at Fair Head (10 minutes’ drive to the car park) to Ronan’s Way along the Glendun River (15 minutes) and the bracing coastal routes in the Causeway Coast National Landscape, taking in the truly spectacular basalt columns of the Giant’s Causeway (half an hour). When a day on the beach beckons, Murlough Bay is a secluded shingle expanse ideal for rock pooling, while Cushendun Beach (both 15 minutes) is a wide sweep of soft sand curling round a bay. The site is also about 40 minutes from the famed surfing beaches around Portrush on Antrim’s north coast. Springing to fame as a ‘Game of Thrones’ location, The Dark Hedges (25 minutes) are a twisting, turning avenue of beech trees planted in the 18th century. Equally stunning and mysterious is Loughareema (half an hour’s walk), a ‘vanishing lake’ that fills and empties at random. It can be reached on foot from the site.
