  • Peaceful riverside site five minutes’ drive from Pewsey in Wiltshire
  • Stonehenge, Silbury Hill and Avebury all 20 minutes’ drive
  • Direct access to a pub and beer garden; shops five minutes’ drive
Right in the centre of the North Wessex Downs National Landscape and hugging the banks of the River Avon, the family-friendly site at Wiltshire’s Woodbridge Inn offers up three acres of leafy grounds to spread out and relax in. Surrounded by sleepy rural hamlets with old-world names like Manningford Bruce and Honey Street, the site has a handy location five minutes’ drive from the pretty town of Pewsey, its shops and restaurants. And even handier, it comes with a pub attached to it. The Woodbridge is an 18th-century coaching inn well-known for its traditional Sunday roasts; the pub serves local beers brewed in Devizes and has a riverside beer garden with a play area for younger guests. You can also order picnic meals for your jaunts around the North Wessex Downs to mysterious Stonehenge and ethereal Avebury (both 20 minutes’ drive). Back on site, simple facilities include an up-cycled amenities hut with showers. You can go paddleboarding and fishing on the Avon, and there are plenty of riverside walks so you can exercise any canine chums who are along for the ride.

What customers say

Lovely riverside spot with a relaxed vibe, great for families. Staff are sound, pub grub's class and it's good value. Toilets and showers are grand but can be a bit tight when it's busy. Some bits need a bit more tidying, and adult-only pitches could be clearer.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked The site had a very relaxed feel to it, park where you like etc. The access to the river was fab for the kids and having a firepit for marshmallows in the evening was a hit. The staff and owners were really friendly. The food at the pub was phenomenal and they have a good selection of alcohol. Will definitely be back

Disliked Could do with a tidy up in places and maybe some wasp traps up around the site and pub

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Quiet site during the week, a bit more noise at the weekend. Good location for Wiltshire sights, and a short drive from essential shops. Facilities are adequate when the site is quieter - but got a bit overloaded at the weekend. Next to a pub is a bonus- but be aware that it was closed Mon-Weds

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked A beautiful little campsite with shade and a river for the hot days. Good basic facilities, everything you need and the pub attached is lovely too. The staff are very friendly, the food was great and it all very relaxed. I would definitely recommend and go back.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked It's a nice site - the landlord was very friendly and welcoming when we arrived, it is dog-friendly and the shallow river running along the edge of the site was an absolute godsend on a scorching hot weekend!
Plenty of hot water in the showers, showers and toilet clean, electric kettle in the washing up/kitchen area was a nice touch.

Disliked Only one toilet in the ladies - this was ok on quite a quiet weekend but would be a stretch if busier. Toilet seat was collapsing, so added a sense of jeopardy !
Kitchen area could do with a bit of a spruce-up.
Really need to improve the bin situation - need clearer, separate bins for recycling and non-recycling and the big bins by the pub car park were over flowing

Non-electric grass pitch (adults only)

Liked Everything! This is an absolutely gorgeous spot, in a shady field with a small, meandering river running through it. I was there in the middle of a heatwave - I left a previous site early because it was a huge, exposed field with no shade - and it was an absolute delight to sit by the river, or even dip my toes in.
Only the EHU pitches are marked out, for the rest you can just choose your favourite spot.
Don't be put off by it being on a roundabout - it's very rural and little traffic.
The hosts were lovely, relaxed and helpful.
The showers were good pressure, hot and plenty of room in the cubicles
Plus, the benefit of the pub on site, with great beer and food.
And all at a low price.
I really had to force myself to leave.

Disliked If I really have to find a fault, I would say that only one women's toilet might not be enough during busy times, but I had no issues while I was there.

Non-electric grass pitch (adults only)

Liked site is in a lovely spot with a stream/river that you can camp right next too if you get their early enough.

Lovely and peaceful, the pub is lovely too!

Disliked The facilities are what let this place down unfortunately…
over 2 days we were there I dont believe the loos/showers were cleaned, luckily the other campers didn’t make much mess in here…
Which was not the same for the sink area… this was left an absolute state by other campers unfortunately. I know this is not the sites problem but it wasn’t cleaned up and was left…

Local attractions

If you’re keen to see some of the mysterious prehistoric relics littered about Wiltshire, head north to the vast stone circles at Avebury, or stop by conical Silbury Hill (both 20 minutes’ drive). Turn south from the site and you can be at Stonehenge, with its all-singing, all-dancing visitor centre, in 20 minutes too. Carry on to the ancient city of Salisbury (35 minutes) to visit the spiky-spired cathedral and Old Sarum Castle (half an hour). Devizes (20 minutes) has a famed brewery to tour, and there are spectacular downs views from the Caen Hill lock flight on the Kennet and Avon Canal just outside town. Another pretty canal-side walk takes in Pewsey Wharf (10 minutes), where scores of brightly coloured barges line the banks. When you want to stay closer to base camp and just potter about, there’s a trout fishery five minutes’ stroll down the road, or you can play a round or two of golf (five minutes’ drive). Take scenic walks along the River Avon from the site, or embark on longer hikes through the undulating North Wessex Downs countryside.
