  • Peaceful siteover two and a half acres in the scenic Blackdown Hills
  • Spacious pitches on the edge of woodland six miles from Taunton
  • Local pub within 50 metres and several more within easy reach
It's a simple couple of minutes' amble (or totter) to (or back from) the pub local to Holly Bush Park in the Blackdown Hills, but that's not even the most mighty fine part of this small and secluded site... This peaceful place's setting six miles south of Taunton is also a teeny drive from the border with Devon, among countryside walks, Forestry Commission woods and yet more country pubs, and all in a wildlife haven and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If it's sands and dinos you seek, Lyme Regis, Charmouth and the spectacular Jurassic Coast are all within 35 minutes; closer to home, the site is directly opposite woodland; golf, horse riding and fishing are within a couple of miles, and two sports centres are under five miles away. Although it's a small site, Holly Bush is acclaimed for its excellent and well-kept facilities and its overall setup, laid out over two and a half acres with green space aplenty for kids – and their grownups – to play. The amenities block has separate ladies' and gents' shower areas, free hot water, toilets, a washing-up area and a laundry room. Calor gas is available to buy on site.

Electric grass and gravel pitch

Liked: Sorry to say this place has changed in the past 12 months - visited in 2023 and was happy Lovely warm welcome from the gentleman who runs/ lives on site - but that’s where the good review stops. This is now a residential site with overflowing bins and cold toilets that didn’t get cleaned for 3 days. People about are friendly but when people are living on a site it shouldn’t really be advertised as it is. Just be honest as to what you are providing and to who and let customers make a fair decision to stay .

Lower Field non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Had late availability for a stopover. Facilities are decent and clean. Not expensive. Friendly welcome. Pub next door is lovely and friendly with good food.

Disliked: As others have said, this place feels like the majority of people just live there rather than a campsite. When we turned up they didn't know where to put us (although to be fair it was a very last minute booking).

Electric grass and gravel pitch

Liked: Easy to find with Google maps. WiFi does work but no password needed so not sure how secure it is!

Disliked: Felt like staying on a site where everyone lived there permanently as almost all pitches had permanent owners. Washing up taps had to hold tap down and got blasted with water. Didn’t use shower. Dog left parking most of the evening and started again at 6.30. Pitch I was on you could hear the busy road from 7. Well over priced £32 most I’ve paid and definitely not worth it should be more like £19 pn.

Electric grass and gravel pitch

Liked: The way out

Disliked: The pitch was small and uneven the hook up was lying on the ground the bins were overflowing the site was full of old RVs and motor homes, in the adjoining field was what seemed to be a gipsy site, didn’t feel safe. Never been to a worse site. And thirty pounds was really over the top for a none fully serviced pitch.

Electric grass and gravel pitch

Liked: Friendly staff, fully serviced pitch, local woodland walk. Pub a 2 minute walk away was really good. We stayed as a stopover on the way to Cornwall and it was perfect for this. Facilities were clean until other residents left all their food waste in the sink, but this is not the site’s fault. Quiet location except for the building work, but that was done by 5pm.

Disliked: Lots of permanent or long term pitches used for permanent residency gave the site an odd feel. Shower/loo block was cold.

Electric grass and gravel pitch

Liked: The recycling was well marked for you. The utility company building site at the end of the campsite would provide hours of free entertainment to children with its diggers, dumpers & pneumatic drilling from 9am - 4pm many people seemed to have booked in for the duration as they liked it so much! Our neighbour had rather ingeniously even brought his lovely wheelbarrow with him! Booked & paid for 3 days we left after one night due to a failure of one of our senses unfortunately.

Disliked: There was an answerphone in the reception when we got lost on the way. The owners had gone out for the day, well it was lovely weather to make the most of. Son Matthew was eventually procured who was a lovely helpful young man who assisted us in parking in the pitch.

Local attractions

This is a stunning setting, metres from woodland, walks and country pubs, and within easy driving distance of activities and attractions over Somerset, Devon and Dorset. Playing fields and parks are close by. The coasts of three counties are all handy for day trips: at Somerset, have a day at Weston-super-Mare or Minehead, both under an hour away; at Devon, make for Seaton and Dawlish, 35 and 55 minutes' drive respectively, and at Dorset, dig into the attractions of the Jurassic Coast at Lyme Regis, Bridport and West Bay, all within 45 minutes. For local walks and dog walks around the region's woodland and the Blackdown Hills of Outstanding Natural Beauty, try the two reservoirs and the nature reserve of Otterford Lakes, five minutes' drive from the site, where anglers can also cast off for wild brown trout. Or have an urban wander around Somerset's towns and cities such as Wellington (15 minutes), Exeter (45 minutes) and Glastonbury, just under an hour away.
