Campsite

  • Relaxed pop-up site 10 minutes’ drive from Somerton in Somerset
  • Glastonbury 10 minutes’ drive and Cheddar Gorge 40 minutes
  • Level grass pitches with modern showers and a covered washing-up area
Bag your spot in a Somerset field for a taste of back-to-nature, no-frills camping. Yep, The Paddock, 10 minutes’ drive from lively Somerton, is a pop-up site with level grass pitches sheltered by natural hedges and offering up woodland and hill views. Facilities on site include toilets, showers with hot water and a washing-up area, all located in the camping paddock. There are also ping-pong tables and other games for the kids as well as hammocks for snoozing in on warmer days. From here, you can go out touring the West Country by car, on foot or by bike. If you fancy a day on the beach, that’s do-able too, with Burnham-on-Sea and Brean about 40 minutes by car; alternatively head south to hit Lyme Regis and Seaton on the Jurassic Coast in about an hour. Barbecues are allowed on the campsite, but if you’re not feeling the alfresco cooking vibe, there’s a pub about five minutes’ walk away that serves local beers, scrumpy cider and freshly prepared meals.

Electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely little site for a stop off when heading back home from Cornwall and Devon. Very helpful owner.

Disliked Not enough toilets and showers for the amount of people on site. A queue of 10 people on Sunday morning. We gave up and stopped at the nearest service station to freshen up after leaving! This would put us off from staying again unfortunately.

Electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Nice size site, tucked back from the road and not too big. Neil and Mandy who owns the site was lovely and made sure everything was ok with your stay and very helpful with local information. Had logs and fire pits on site to use. Had a honesty box on site where you could buy drinks, ice creams, disposable BBQS and even eggs from the neighbour all at reasonable prices. Toilets/showers were cleaned daily. Had games and balls etc on site for children and picnic benches. Even had a stick library for dogs which I thought was very cute and funny. Wasn’t far from Glastonbury so lots of shops, pubs and supermarkets near you. Even had a food wagon selling bacon rolls etc at the front of the campsite. Had a lovely time and will be staying again next year.

Disliked Only downside was the site only had two toilets which were in with the shower. So in the morning there was a queue and you were waiting behind people who were taking a shower when you only needed to visit the toilet. Neil did inform us that he will be installing separate toilets over the winter months, so hopefully won’t be an issue next time we visit.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Excellent campsite. Very clean, very well maintained. Plenty of room in showers for getting changed and storing clothes and toiletries. Friendly and helpful owner. Quiet campsite, the other guests were lovely too. Lovely washing up area with a beautiful view. Lots of quirky features, like a repurposed horsebox with games for children and a library for borrowing books. A fridge and freezer in the washing up area with an honesty box so you can buy prosecco, ice creams, BBQ etc. lots of gorgeous walks from the campsite. Fire pits to borrow. An apple tree and blackberry bushes around the edge with delicious juicy berries already. WiFi code given on arrival. As a single female guest, this campsite felt very safe.

Electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Everything!
Neil and Mandy were excellent hosts, so helpful.
Facilities were great.
It was very quite while we were there, lovely to give my daughters a bit of freedom to go around the site on their own, especially to go to the honesty shop and the play area.

Disliked I can't think of anything!

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked High quality, clean facilities. Nice touches for kids and families (benches and table football) and we loved the dog stick library. Very kind welcome from the owners. Excellent WiFi. Good, level, sheltered pitches.

Disliked Very near a busy road so somewhat noisy, and not great unless you're driving. Be aware that pitches are quite small so if you have a large tent, they might be too small.

From the manager: Glad you enjoyed your stay, hope to see you again soon

Electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Neil was really helpful, friendly and always on hand when needed. Glastonbury was a really close drive. There was a good walk up to the Hood monument from the site.
We were lucky that there was only a couple of others booked on when we stayed.
