  • Dorset working organic family farm a mile and a half from Halstock
  • A 20-minute drive to Sherborne; half an hour to Jurassic Coast
  • Fresh milk from the dairy each day, plus home-made sausages to buy
If you’re after somewhere to experience a proper slice of rural Dorset life, surely you can hardly do better than a working family farm where you’ll be provided with a daily drink of free milk fresh from the on-site dairy? If that sounds like just the countryside vibe you’re looking for, bag yourselves a space at Liberty Farm, up at the northern edge of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty about a mile and a half from the village of Halstock. This organic farm is run by brothers Rob and Pete, who look after pigs and beef cattle as well as the dairy herd – that means as well as your serving of fresh milk you can also buy organic sausages and bacon to cook up for a breakfast that really tastes of its surroundings. Everything has been set up here to keep things simple and peaceful – there’s plenty of space to go around on this historic farm, but guest numbers are kept low to ensure you’ll have that relaxed rural peace you seek. The facilities have been kept to the essentials as well – you’ll have access to a compost toilet and a cold water tap but please note there are no showers on site. With scenic surroundings, quiet roads and plenty of lovely pubs and cafés nearby this is a particularly good base for walks and bike rides. There are also several attractive villages and towns to poke around in nearby, including Evershot, Beaminster and Montacute (all within a 20-minute drive). Sherborne is about 20 minutes away too, and it’s around half an hour to the Jurassic Coast around Bridport and West Bay.
