Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Very chilled atmosphere, owners were laid back about checking in/ where to pitch etc. Were allowed campfires Toilets and showers clean Nice cafe on site selling really tasty homemade cakes and treats I liked the family bathrooms as it was nice to have a toilet and shower to yourself and enough room to get changed and hang things up (plenty of hooks)

Disliked: The eco loos that were dotted around were handy, however, it would have been good to have a couple of separate sinks so that you didn't have to queue for the family bathroom if you just wanted to brush your teeth/wash your face etc.

Liked: We loved absolutely everything about this campsite. From the horses grazing at the top of the fields to the kitchens tasty pasty’s and local honey located at the bottom. The grounds are kept immaculate and the location is to die for.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Showers/toilets- cleaned regularly, no queues, extra toilet roll stored on the rafters in the block. Bar - reasonably priced food that was served fresh and quickly. Activities - lots of options for the kids but book in advance as spaces get snapped up quickly. Pitch - designated pitch that a good size and close to facilities throughout the site. Staff - really helpful and friendly!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Very peaceful site with plenty of space even on a bank holiday weekend. Good access to nearby attractions like Corfe (which we walked to across the heathland) and Swanage etc. Showers and flush loos were clean and acceptable. Dogs were welcomed and all owners manged their pets well.

Disliked: We weren't contacted by the host at all over the weekend we stayed so there seems to be a high level of trust on bookings. I prefer having someone come round to check we are legitimate and tagging the tent as happens in many other campsites. Eco loos were a bot smelly.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: There was a very relaxed feel to the campsite, friendly and helpful staff and good hot showers, as well as an On-site cafe. Unlike others we always managed to get a decent signal on our phone. It was nice that you could have an open fire pit, raised off the ground and you were free to choose where you wanted to pitch up.

Disliked: Sometimes In the mornings between 8 and 9.30 there was a queue of up to five people waiting for showers and toilets, which was difficult when you’ve just woken and needed a quick wee. Also it would be nicer if the fields were regularly mown, to keep the length of grass down, so you didn’t get wet feet walking across and also easier for dismantling tents, drying and packing them on shortly clipped grass. It would also be helpful to have bins.

From the manager: Good morning. Thank you for your review. In addition to the plumbed toilets, we have 4 long drop toilets that are very clean and ideal for that quick visit. We also have two other showers which you might not have spotted - it is rare for these to have more than one or two people waiting. Instead of mowing the complete fields this year we tested out mowing many pathways across the fields and leaving the rest to grow - this maintains a good habitat for crickets and other insects. Once we open, it is difficult to get into the fields to mow and, when we do, we get a lot of cut grass dragged into the toilets and showers. We thought the pathways worked well and helped keep the showers cleaner for longer. This also maintains a good habitat for crickets and other insects. We plan to have large bins next year. We hope to see you again. Phil & Caz

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely, quiet, laid back campsite! Nice facilities, easy check in.

Disliked: Would have been great if there were a couple more toilets. As queues were often quite long with 2 of the 4 toilets being in with 2 of the showers.

From the manager: Thanks so much for your review. I am so sorry you did not know we actually have 6 toilets. 4 composting toilets and 2 flushing toilets. We look forward to seeing you again next summer! Best Wishes

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Jill is so lovely and helpful, nothing is too much trouble for her, even sorting some logs for us in her pyjamas ! The camp site is well managed and maintained to a high standard. The availability of having camp fires is such a nice touch. We all had an amazing time, the showers are clean and plenty of hot water. A two minute queue for the toilets in the morning but for a bank holiday it was to be expected. Definitely stay here again and have recommended to all my friends. Thank you 😊

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Great panoramic view of the heathland from the top field where we chose to pitch, I liked that we were able to have a campfire and watch the sunset, it was beautiful. Easy check-in and really friendly easy going owners.

Disliked: Only seemed to be 2 toilets?

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Location - close to some nice towns, Wareham being just along the road, but very removed from the main road and set in beautiful countryside. Good facilities, four hot showers and four loos (two long drops, two "normal"). Drinking water available, a phone charging extension cable outside the kitchen cafe. Lots of room for lots of campers, so no one needs to camp too close to one another and you get a bit of privacy. Very reasonable value. Owner Jill is incredibly kind and accommodating, a lovely friendly face to have around!

Disliked: None of the four of us (all on different networks) had good phone signal so if you want to stay connected, this is not the place for you (we wanted to switch off so not a negative for us!)

Local attractions

With a location so close to the Jurassic coast (20 minutes’ drive), you might want to start ticking off some of the top spots. Its most easterly point is the Old Harry Rocks (20 minutes), chalk stacks out to sea and a fine place to snap a good pic. Your snorkelling gear is an essential for Kimmeridge Bay (20 minutes) – unless you’re heading there to surf or windsurf instead. One way to get to Swanage (20 minutes) is on the heritage railway from Corfe Castle Station (10 minutes) – once there, coasteering, paddleboarding and all manners of watersports are within your grasp. Of course, stop off at the National Trust’s Corfe Castle (five minutes) before you let the train whisk you off – the hilltop ruins are simply splendid for an explore. Wildlife fans will find plenty to spy on around the Durlston Country Park and National Nature Reserve (25 minutes). But first, some tasty nosh in Wareham (10 minutes), a local market town?
