  • Peaceful site backed by woodland in rural Dorset
  • A five-minute drive to Swanage beach; Corfe Castle 10 minutes
  • Dark site with Swanage Railway and the South West Coast Path close by
Coombe Farm Camping is a simple, peaceful site on the outskirts of Swanage in Dorset. The site is set in a 13-acre field framed by oak woods, with exceptional views across the Downs and a real chance of spotting wildlife like deer and owls. One thing you’ll get here that’s certainly a novelty is steam locomotives chuffing along Swanage Railway at the bottom of the camping field – not everyone can say they’ve got a heritage railway line almost to themselves – and there’s even a footpath down to the railway track if you’d like to get a better view of the trains. Despite this field feeling wonderfully remote, it’s actually only a five-minute drive from Swanage, with its popular beach, great pubs and restaurants. And if you’d rather cook for yourselves, here you can pick up stuff to grill on the firepit back at base. If you’re into serious walking, you can jump on the South West Coast Path in five minutes’ drive, for bracing hikes along clifftops, and if you’re keen on your medieval history, drive to 11th-century Corfe Castle (10 minutes) to scramble around the hillside ruins. Basic facilities include a tap in the washing-up area and portaloos, but what this site is all about is the chance to spend quiet evenings sitting under the stars with family and friends – and remember to bring that telescope so you can watch the Milky Way glittering above on clear nights.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The campsite was spacious and quiet which was lovely. The amenities were basic but just what we needed. A very short drive into Swanage for exploring!

Disliked: We were not made aware of where to collect the fire pit on the first night, so we could not use it. Then the second night it rained so unfortunately that was a waste of money. The rain couldn’t be helped of course but a text to let us know on the first night would have been helpful! 😊

Liked: The site was exactly as described: lovely, simple camping next to nature.

Disliked: Not all the other campers stuck to the rules (dogs on leads, no music) but, if they booked other than through Pitchup I’m not sure the rules were the same.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Location of the site near to Swanage. Great views. Friendly Plenty of toilet paper, facilities cleaned regularly Owls hooting!

Disliked: Plenty of Portaloos but they did become smelly after a long weekend. Rather hilly - difficult not to pitch closer to others than planned to get a less steep part of the field.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked: Lovely to be greeted on arrival, as this was only our second ever camp we were a little nervous. I was travelling with my 76 year old Mum. We felt we were safe and welcome at Coombe Farm, we were reassured that there would be someone to help at the reception area if we needed assistance. The toilet facilities were clean and the site was lovely. Bus stop just outside for an easy trip into Swanage and surrounding towns. So relaxing, would happily stay here again.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike, other than my Mother managed to launch a tin of chicken soup all over the awning! A hot shower would make this place extra special
