  • Well-maintained peaceful pitches on a Dorset farm near Yetminster
  • Weymouth and West Bay 45 minutes' drive away on the Jurassic Coast
  • Grass field that catches sun all day; dogs and barbecues welcome
If there’s some sun around, you’ll be able to make the most of it at Tree Bark Camping – the camping field at this lovely Dorset location catches the sun all day, with sunset often providing a colourful display across one end of the campsite to finish the day. Whatever the time of day, this is a pretty spot with a peaceful rural atmosphere that comes partly from its location tucked away in Dorset’s country lanes and partly from the added bonus of a stream trickling past one side of the field. In keeping with the rural farm setting, facilities here are simple but cover the essentials: guests have access to portable toilets, a shower and a washing-up area, and are welcome to bring along barbecues to cook meals. Supplies for whatever barbecues or picnics you have planned can be acquired at the village store in Leigh (a minute’s drive) or the mini supermarket in Yetminster (two minutes’ drive/15 minutes’ walk). Fancy a meal out and/or a pint of something local instead? There’s a pub in Yetminster too, and a tempting 13 of them in Sherborne, 10 minutes’ drive away. As for the rest of the area, well, you should find plenty of ways to fill your days around here, perhaps heading out for hikes in the northern stretches of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or making your way down to the spectacular Jurassic Coast for the sandy beach at Weymouth or the soaring cliffs of West Bay.

Local attractions

Staying at Tree Bark Camping you’ll be just outside the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with plenty of walking trails to follow around places like the village of Evershot or the Cerne Abbas Giant (both 15 minutes’ drive). Several local towns are worth a wander too, including Sherborne (10 minutes) and Dorchester (25 minutes). Down at the Jurassic Coast (around 45 minutes), you may like to see some of the seaside scenery on a walk along the South West Coast Path, look up at the cliffs of West Bay or hit the sands of Weymouth (also home to the Sea Life Centre and the gateway to the Isle of Portland). There's plenty of variety when it comes to other days out too – you might like to wander among the artworks at Sculpture By The Lakes (35 minutes), go kayaking from Lulworth Cove (50 minutes), sample the wines at Langham Wine Estate (half an hour), meet the residents of Abbotsbury Swannery (40 minutes)…
