  • Adults-only park 10 minutes' drive from Poole
  • Jurassic Coast and New Forest within a half-hour drive
  • Well-maintained pitches with easy access from the A35
Now how’s this for a supremely handy location for a Dorset break? The adults-only park at Simmons Farm Estate is in a quiet rural spot just off the A35, about 10 minutes’ drive from Poole and within easy reach of all sorts of popular attractions. Park yourself here for a few days and you should find it straightforward to get out and about to whichever corner of the county you fancy – head south to the Isle of Purbeck and the Jurassic Coast, east to Bournemouth and the New Forest, north for hikes in the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, or west to Dorchester. All of the above are within a drive of about half an hour, so you shouldn’t have to spend too much time on the road. Sticking closer to home? A golf course, café and pub are within a mile, and you can pick up food supplies at a small supermarket five minutes’ drive away in Lytchett Matravers (perhaps the place to get the bits you’ll need for an evening by your barbecue?) In keeping with its quiet rural surroundings, it’s a very peaceful setup on site – and a well-equipped one too. The large grass pitches here have access to water, electricity, grey water and chemical disposal, and there’s a toilet block and showers on site too.

Local attractions

Coming along for the coast? There are plenty of top spots to choose from… head down to Poole (10 minutes’ drive) for boat trips to the wildlife haven Brownsea Island, marvel at both the stunning beach and equally stunning fancy millionaires’ homes at Sandbanks (20 minutes) or go for something with a wilder edge at Studland (25 minutes), backed by a nature reserve and with a naturist section for those seeking an all-over tan. The highlights of the Jurassic Coast aren’t far away either – it’ll take you about 25 minutes to drive to places like Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door or Kimmeridge, all linked by some splendid walks on the South West Coast Path. On your way down there, stop off at Corfe Castle or Monkey World (15 minutes), or hire a boat or kayak in Wareham (10 minutes) for a trip on the River Frome. An outing to the New Forest National Park (half an hour) makes a great day trip, with lots of places to walk, ride bikes or go horse riding, and watersports like kayaking and paddleboarding down at the coast. Buckler’s Hard, Hurst Castle and Beaulieu’s National Motor Museum are all worth a stop while you’re over that way too.
