Pitches

  • Grass meadow on the outskirts of Broadmayne village in rural Dorset
  • A 10-minute drive to Preston beach; 20 to Durdle Door or Chesil beach
  • Lots of safe space for kids to play; 10-minute walk to a pub and shops
Looking to really, really get back to nature? Well, this may be the spot for you. Chalk Meadow is a secluded grass paddock site on the outskirts of the sleepy Dorset village of Broadmayne, 20 minutes' drive away from Durdle Door. Facilities are minimal (just loos and hot showers) and there’s no electricity, but that’s part of its rural charm. Couples, families and well-behaved dogs – all are welcome here, for relaxing country breaks mooching across the fields. And if you want to get out exploring, there’s plenty to do for everybody. You can walk to Osmington White Horse in 45 minutes, and if you’re looking forward to splashing around in the sea with the kids, you’ve got the choice of Chesil (20 minutes), Preston and Ringstead (both 10 minutes) beaches. Get set to spark up the barbecue on site (just remember to bring your own) as it’s an easy 10-minute walk to Broadmayne to stock up on supplies in the convenience stores. Don’t want to cook? No worries – there’s a pub in the village too. For bigger shopping trips, the lively market town of Dorchester (10 minutes' drive) is your best bet, and you’ll probably want to stay a while to poke around its markets, museums and Thomas Hardy's Cottage (15 minutes).

What customers say

Tá sé seo mar champála socair, dea-chothaithe le páirceanna fairsing, cothroma. Molann aíonna go seasta an úinéir cairdiúil cabhrach, Jim, agus na saoráidí glan bunúsacha, go háirithe na cithfholcadáin te. Tá an suíomh iontach chun an chósta Jurassic a iniúchadh. Cé go dtugann roinnt léirmheastóirí faoi nádúr bunúsach na saoráidí agus an gnóthachtáil uaireanta, tá an tuairim iomlán an-dearfach, agus tá fonn ar go leor aíonna filleadh.

Liked The beautiful location and proximity to beaches and amenities. The peaceful surroundings and the site itself. Plenty of space and the top meadow is pretty much flat too.
Jim who’s the owner is so friendly and very kind and does his rounds morning and evening and on arrival giving the experience a real personal touch!
Great toilets & showers and washing up stations.
My 10 yr old Grandson (Archie) & our dog had an absolute blast. THANK YOU!!!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great location, only a short drive from Weymouth, which makes it very convenient for exploring the area. The owner is friendly and welcoming, and the washing‑up area is well equipped with hot water, sponges, and washing liquid etc.

Disliked The facilities are quite basic. There are only two shower cabins, the water is barely warm with no way to adjust the temperature, and the shower head produces very sharp, needle‑like jets of water. The drainage is very poor: the tiny drain gets clogged easily, creating a puddle you end up standing in while showering.

Men’s toilets: 3 urinals + 1 cubicle.
Ladies’ toilets: 2 cubicles.
Functional, but very limited for a busy campsite.

The showers would benefit from improvements replacing the shower heads, fixing the drainage, and making the water hotter instead of slightly warm. The campsite allows dogs, but there are no strict rules about keeping them on a leash, and some dogs roam freely during both day and evening time, which can be uncomfortable for families with children who may be afraid. Adding a small children’s play area would make the experience even better.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your comments there are signs to keep dogs on a leash the showers I have all ways had high prase for them things they can get blocked from time to time with grass carried in and I am cleaning them many times a day all the very best regards Jim

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great location, and facilities clean enough. Jim was lovely checked in on us morning and evening to make sure everything was ok - would definitely return.

Disliked Only niggle I have is it would have been good to have a bin by the washing up so if any food left in sink can throw it away straight away.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Flat, well kept, clean and tidy, hedged field. Close to clean, well stocked toilets, showers and wash up area with stand pipe for drinking water. Pitch where you like.
Attentive owner Jim(?) who helped me pitch up as granddaughter was unhelpful (nothing to do with the site just pre-teen and mood swings!). VERY reasonable price.

Disliked Leaving early due to pre-teen. Missing out on some camping days, Sea life, Weymouth and all it had to offer, eclipse, meteors etc!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for my review it was so nice to meet you shame you had to leave early hope to see you very soon all the very best regards Jim

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The place is in a quiet and pleasant area. The toilet and shower facilities were great. The owner checked on us from time to time to make sure everything was okay. It is also conveniently located near the town centre.

Disliked It would be helpful to have toilet cleaning liquid available in the toilet area, as well as a small food waste bin placed on the side.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for my review thank you for your comments hope to sort out the food waste with contracters in very near future hope to see again regards Jim

If that’s not enough to keep them happy, you can try Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre (20 minutes). Plenty of adventures await along the Jurassic Coast too. Weymouth (20 minutes) has a pretty harbour lined with boats as well as lots of seafront bars and restaurants, while Poole (40 minutes) is a great spot for pub crawling with a whole slew of restaurants. If late nights are not your thing, have a nose around the hilltop ruins of Corfe Castle (30 minutes).
