A peaceful site with good pitches. Jim's a gem, always welcoming. Facilities are clean, basic, and warm water is plentiful. Great for exploring, though it can get a bit crowded at busy times.

We stayed at Chalk Meadow as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) from Thursday to Sunday, with friends and family joining us on Friday and Saturday, and had a lovely time.
The site is well looked after and the facilities are kept clean and tidy. The owner is a really friendly guy, in and out throughout the day, always around if you need anything and happy to have a chat.
It was very quiet when we arrived Thursday, and we weren't initially sure whether we just went in and pitched up, but once we got settled the owner came over to make sure we were all okay. By Saturday evening the site was almost full, but everyone was respectful, with quiet being observed around 10–11pm.
The facilities were kept really well throughout our stay. There's a bit of an unwritten camping rule that if you find somewhere clean, you leave it clean for the next person — and everyone seemed to follow that, which made a big difference.
We'd definitely recommend this off-grid site. Just to clarify regarding some recent reviews, campfires and fire BBQs are currently not permitted due to the local hosepipe restrictions. This isn't something the owner can control — if the restrictions weren't in place, I'm sure he'd happily allow them. But with the current weather and conditions, allowing fires could quite literally put the fields at risk of going up in flames, as well as potentially leaving him facing a substantial fine or worse. It's simply common sense and a necessary safety measure in the current conditions.

Liked The campsite is good for the price, with a convenient location and a fairly quiet atmosphere.
Disliked The men’s bathroom was not cleaned once during the several days we stayed there and was quite dirty. The showers also leave a lot to be desired. However, given the price, we didn’t have particularly high expectations to begin with.
The owner is very friendly and regularly — I would even say constantly — comes around to check on the guests. Because of this, we never really felt that we had much privacy.

Liked We loved our stay at this campsite and would happily return (and actually booked another stay before we’d left!) It was easy to find with helpful directions listed on the site booking, and the location was perfect for exploring the surrounding area, with plenty to see and do nearby.
Jim, the owner, was fantastic. He took the time to personally welcome us, checked in to make sure we had everything we needed, and made a point of greeting and saying goodbye to all of his guests. His friendly, personal approach really made our stay feel special and was a massive factor into why we booked this campsite in the first place with such positive reviews!
The facilities were simple but clean, well maintained, and exactly what you need for a comfortable camping trip. Overall, it’s a wonderful campsite with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that we would highly recommend. We can’t wait to be back!
