  • Adults-only site in an orchard on a cider farm with 3,000 apple trees
  • A 15-minute drive from West Bay beach on the Jurassic Coast
  • Taproom serving champion craft ales and ciders; cider tours and trails
Three cheers for something deliciously different. Dorset Nectar Orchard Campsite is an adults-only campsite where you can pitch up among 3,000 organic apple trees. And you get easy access to the Jurassic Coast’s West Bay beach (15 minutes’ drive) into the bargain. The grass pitches are widely spaced – guests have 12 metres between each one – meaning there’s ample room for dozing off in the shade… You could also settle down on the numerous benches in the cider garden or bound over to the barbecue area in the run-up to outdoor dinners. Alternatively, raised firepits are available, and there’s wood to purchase for small, safe cooking by your tent. And the best bit? A tasting room selling 13 kinds of award-winning cider, as well as apple juice, craft beers and apple cider vinegar. The site also runs tours of the farm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. On other days of the week there are footpaths through neighbouring fields or by the river Brit to take advantage of, or you could stroll to the pub half a mile down the road to fill up on excellent food within easy walking distance. For other eats, there’s a farm shop just outside Bridport (10 minutes), where you can also pick up goodies at twice-weekly markets. In terms of other facilities, the site has four toilets and two showers that are cleaned regularly. There's also the on-site cider shop, which sells biscuits, chutneys, jams, sausages, craft ales and local wines in addition to apple-related products.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Beautiful scenery camping within the orchard. Bar serving delicious cider and beer. Live music on the Saturday. Very clean toilets and shower. Fire pits and grills available for free, just need to buy wood from the front desk.

Disliked: Cue for the shower in the morning could get quite long.

Liked: Very friendly hosts and delightful site amongst the orchard apple trees. Plenty of space. Washing and shower facilities are good but more needed for number of campers. I believe a new block is planned for next year. It would be useful if the 11pm curfew was heeded to and upheld by owners as it was 2:30 am before rowdy campers settled down for the night! However, we will return!

Disliked: Noisy campers up till 2:30 am!

Liked: The setting for camping is so pretty between the trees with a whole row to yourself. The cider and bar on site are a real plus and the location is great with pub in walking distance. There was live music on the Saturday and the band were really good.

Disliked: This is our second time visiting and sadly the facilities have not been addressed from 2 years ago. Two showers and two toilets for the amount of pitches is not enough. Added to the fact the bank holiday they allowed nearly half the site to be group bookings it was just too many people for so few (there are 2 additional portaloos but with no water / sanitary bins these aren't really a great alternative unless desperate). We stayed 4 nights and on none of the nights was the 11pm quiet respected. Its a great site in many ways but the over booking and lack of facilities means we most likely will not visit again.

From the manager: Hello there I`m really glad you enjoyed the large orchard pitches, close walking distance to the Wonderful Hare and Hounds pub and the very special location in which we are here in Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty of West Dorset. We work really hard to make it a very unique and special place for everyone to stay at when they visit. Each of the Pitches are extra large and 16 feet wide 250 feet long to really allow people to spread out if they wish and not be near anyone else if they so wish. We have had great responses for our live music "Cider Saturdays" where we have a local live band play and serve a changing menu from "Olivers Kitchen" I`d correct you there, you say we had only 2 bathrooms, in actual fact we have 5 at present with an additional 5 being built this winter. Thanks for asking us about the bathrooms, we were in the midst of getting planning permission over a year ago when our planning consultant sadly had a Stroke at which point we had to start from scratch with a new consultant for a new additional bathroom block. We received permission for these additional 2x mens bathrooms, 2x mens showers, 2x womens, 2x womens showers and 1x Disabled bathroom closer to the orchard pitches this Spring in April, since they we have not had a chance to build them but have bought the 2 dozen pallets of bricks and lumber already to build it this winter. The last two weeks we have had a booking error where certain booking systems had not synched with ours so more bookings were made than usual, this combined with the busiest weekend of the entire season, THE AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY meant there were a number of campers enjoying their time here more than normal, we did our best to accommodate and cleaned the facilities over twice the normal amount that we usually do per day. We tell each and every person we book in that we have strict 11pm onwards quiet time, as in turn your music off etc. I`m sorry you experienced some noise past that time, we were not told about this at the time, if we had we would have spoken to the people and asked them to stop. There is a number of you can call us on, on the Leaflet with a map etc given out on arrival and checking in. I`m glad you have stayed with us twice now and enjoyed your stay beside the points I addressed above. I`m sure you`ll see how we are addressing that to make sure our site remains a special place for many people to enjoy. Thanks Best Ryan and the Cider Farm Orchard Camping team

Local attractions

Sipping cider is a treat all of its own, but you might also like to sample others summery drinks at the nearby Furleigh Estate (five minutes’ drive), a local vineyard that does a nice line in still and sparkling wines. Once equipped with a suitable supply of your favourite beverage, pack it in a hamper and head to a local beauty spot for picnics: Colmer's Hill viewpoint (15 minutes), Gerrard's Hill (15 minutes), Colmers Hill (15 minutes), Mangerton Mill (15 minutes) and West Bay beach (15 minutes) would all make excellent backdrops. If it's cider that has your heart, though, learn a little more about its heritage at the cider museum in Owermoigne (40 minutes). There's also an antique clock museum in town if you need a little break from the drinks. As well as rural and coastal vistas, this part of Dorset has a lot of attractive gardens, including the well-groomed grounds at Mapperton House (15 minutes) and Bennetts Water Gardens (40 minutes), which is geared towards water lilies. A trip to Abbotsbury (30 minutes), meanwhile, can combine a wander around the subtropical gardens, the swannery and the maze. For fossil-hunting, Lyme Regis (30 minutes) is your best bet. Afterwards, you can compare your finds with the giant Jurassic specimens on display at the town's two museums.
