  • Adults-only pop-up Devon site on a private estate near Tiverton
  • Exmoor National Park 25 minutes’ drive; north Devon beaches an hour
  • Within five acres of countryside; shops and pubs five minutes’ drive
Set within five acres of countryside at Lurley Manor on the outskirts of Tiverton, Lurley Hideaways is a peaceful pop-up site just right for chilled-out – and adults-only – getaways in leafy Devon countryside. Surrounded by trees, birdsong and open nature, it’s a splendid spot for slowing down and enjoying time outdoors. Dogs are welcome here (the owners have two of their own), and you can look forward to many adventures together on walks leading past orchards, wildflowers and ancient trees. When the weather plays nice, this is a stunning place to cook and eat outside – whether lunching at a tree-shaded picnic table or gathering around a barbecue on long, light evenings. Stock up on supplies at Tiverton's (five minutes’ drive) supermarkets, but if you’d rather dodge alfresco catering, you have a choice of takeaways, pubs and restaurants there too. Practical facilities include portable loos, a washing-up area and charging facilities (note there are no showers on site). Lurley Hideaways is an off-grid site, so bring torches for wandering around after dark, and there’s no drinking water available, so you’ll need to bring that in too.

Local attractions

Tiverton (five minutes’ drive) is a historic market town with lots of independent shops to browse, plus walks along the River Exe for the stretching of legs and paws, and a romantic castle with a Jacobean interior to explore – it’s still privately owned and open Thursday and Sunday afternoons in summer. For something that bit different, you can time-travel back a century or so and take a horse-drawn barge trip along the Grand Western Canal from Tiverton Wharf (10 minutes). The wild moorland, woodland valleys and coastal views of Exmoor National Park (25 minutes) are within easy reach; the park has all manner of hiking and cycling trails through the dramatic landscapes. Dartmoor National Park (40 minutes) is another haven for outdoorsy types, with rugged tors to summit, scenic walking and biking routes and opportunities to spot Dartmoor ponies. When you fancy a day at the beach, take your pick from some of north Devon's top sandy spots – Saunton Sands, Croyde Bay and Woolacombe are all around an hour's drive away, and popular for swimming and surfing.
