  • Adults-only farm site 10 minutes from English Riviera beaches
  • Outdoor haven: trails, tors and moors of Dartmoor within 30 minutes
  • Minibus service and fully licensed restaurant and bar on site
When the choice between beachy hols on the English Riviera and lush wanders in stunningly scenic national parks leaves you dithering, make your decision a doddle with a stay at Widdicombe Farm Touring Park, a family-run and adults-only site 10 minutes’ drive from the seaside town of Paignton on the Devon coast. The site's about 15 minutes from the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and half an hour from Dartmoor National Park, so there are plenty of spectacularly green vistas to hike, bike or drive through within easy reach – not to mention waterfalls, river banks and craggy moors... If the first thing into your suitcase was a swimming cossie, you’ve packed well for this particular getaway: Paignton’s Preston Sands beach is less than 10 minutes away (there’s a shuttle service from the site). If your quick sandy stroll seems to be picking up speed, turn it into a long-distance jaunt by accessing up the South West Coast Path at either end of the beach. There’s a small shop on site for groceries if you fancy bringing picnic supplies on your day trips, or you can hold off for a home-cooked dinner at Poppies, the on-site restaurant (open from Easter to September). After that, wander over to Gordon’s bar for a drink, or to take in the live entertainment.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: This was our 3rd stay here, this site is so cleaned and friendly, all the staff are second to none they are so helpful and friendly. Toilets and showers are so clean and fresh no matter when you them, poppy's cafe/restaurant is very reasonable and very good food, Sunday roast is a must.. Gordon's bar is OK prices are very reasonable, My only dislike which is no fault of the site, the Internet is so poor and £11 for 7 days is very expensive when it's impossible to use, Also I was really annoyed by dryer in laundry room, paid £6 for washing machine and £6 for dryer, but as l didn't want t shirts creased to much and shrink I opened the door to check they had been in for around twenty five minutes I closed the door and it wouldn't restart unless l put another £6 so ended up packing damp washing, so was far from impressed, but other then that a fabulous site...

Liked: Clean facilities

Disliked: Being asked to mop the floor. CCTV next to my pitch. Having to pay extra for WiFi.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: You have stated that you liked the cleanliness of the facilities which is lovely to hear. Part of the reason they are so clean and tidy is that in addition to our team members working hard to maintain high standards we provide a mop and bucket in the shower areas as guests have asked for this so that they can mop the floor before or after using the facilities. It's not nice to walk on a sopping wet floor from the previous occupant so most guests like to give it a little mop out once they've finished in the shower. Just to clarify for you that whist you may see CCTV cameras near you, they are not looking directly into your personal space. They are only viewing and recording events on the public areas of the park.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: The site was well maintained. Reception was friendly and informative. Showers and toilets clean. The area is lovely, nice walks. Dog field Loved the food vans and the little club house.

Disliked: Nothing really to dislike Would like an in/door area that welcomes dogs as it is a dog friendly site, would have been nice to get involved with the entertainment. But wouldn’t stop us going again.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: The excellent facilities were very clean and the staff very helpful especially those on reception! Mini bus to main areas a real bonus, saves moving the motorhome once on site. The restaurant offered a variety of dishes with daily specials and would recommend. We liked having the bar to visit in the evening, the female vocalist was very good! A very friendly welcoming site.

Disliked: Although the pitches were quite large there was not a lot of space to sit privately outside and we felt the need to have our window blinds closed most of the time as others opposite and around could see straight in! If we were to return would book a different pitch!

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Excellent location, site is very clean and facilities are good, even the option of onsite dining and a chippy van delivery.Staff are very helpful and pitches are more than adequate.

Disliked: My TV reception was poor although probably I shouldn't attribute this to the site more the location but it's worth bringing some DVDS if you have a player or books /magazines WiFi needs to be bought as a package if using it from your caravan Not a deal breaker but worth knowing in advance.

From the manager: Thanks for taking the time to write your review. Great tips for people just in case they have trouble with their TV's. Always worth finding a little space for a DVD or two.

Local attractions

This is Agatha Christie country, so if you’re looking to solve the mystery of what to do during your hols, you're sorted here too. Make your way into Torquay a 15-minute drive away for the Agatha Christie Mile – a walking tour of spots that inspired the author – and Kents Cavern, a prehistoric cave that served as Hampsley Cavern in her novel The Man in the Brown Suit. For a glimpse of Christie’s personal life, Greenway House at Brixham is where she spent summer and Christmas hols. If Greenway House whet your appetite for stately homes, zip along to Compton Castle (five minutes) for house and garden tours, or Cockington Country Park (10 minutes) for strolls around the extensive grounds and a glimpse of Cockington Court (now a craft centre). Not enough? Venture further afield for Coleton Fishacre, Buckfast Abbey and the 16-sided A la Ronde, all within 35 minutes. There are plenty of museums, steam trains and model villages nearby to keep history buffs entertained, but those who prefer more of a living and breathing experience should pad over to Paignton Zoo (within 15 minutes) instead.
