  • Award-winning park in a wooded valley and wildlife haven
  • Within 15 minutes' drive of Ilfracombe, Woolacombe and Croyde Bay
  • Play parks overlooking gardens and lake
If life’s little stresses are getting you down, flee and hide away in this award-winning park in a Devon wooded valley. From your doorstep at Hidden Valley Park all the highlights of north Devon are within easy reach: the famed beaches of Ilfracombe, Woolacombe and Croyde Bay are no more than 15 minutes' drive away, and family days out at The Big Sheep are about half an hour from the site. But this pretty place is so secluded you'll feel like the world outside doesn’t even exist (which is always a win…). There's no need to leave the grounds until you're fully perked up, with plenty of peaceful options including wandering along the stream running through the park, lazing about the lakeside area, or taking a woodland walk to spot kingfishers and otters. Take a tramp through the forest then come back to relax around the gardens and lake – there’s wifi access too so you can load up your phone/tablet and studiously avoid catching up on work. Which is also a win… Kids and dogs can hide away too, as there are two play parks for the youngsters and the park is dog-friendly. Amenities include luxury shower and toilet blocks with hairdryers and underfloor heating, full disabled facilities, a reception with tourist information, a licensed shop and a launderette. Once it’s time to venture off site, a bus stop is just outside the entrance to the park.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch (large)

Liked: The toilets and showers here are excellent. The pitches are large and the site is well maintained. We brought our grandchild with us this time and he loves the pirate ship although this needs a little renovation now. We often use this site when visiting family in Ilfracombe as you know that you will get a high standard.

Disliked: We couldn’t quite work out why we were given a pitch almost as far away from the toilets/showers and entrance/exit as possible when there were other large pitches available in Oak. Next time I’ll probably just book a smaller pitch which is closer.

Electric optional gravel touring pitch (large)

Liked: We had a problem on our pitch when we arrived, so we informed staff the next morning, they were quick to deal with it and upgraded us to another pitch, we were very happy with their efficiency in dealing with the issue. Hidden Valley is a lovely place surrounded with woodland which made a good place to walk your dog off lead. Toilets and showers very clean. We used the cafe/restuarant/bar for a couple of ciders after our day out a couple of times. Everyone (staff) are very friendly and welcoming we would highly recommend.

Disliked: Electric expensive

Liked: Warm welcome. Decent flat pitches. Good shower block with piped music

Disliked: When we arrived, we were promised 1 hour free wifi per day which we could get by the bar, even though the bar is shut on a Monday. When I went down in the evening I was unable to get free WiFi, but a different member of staff was still working in Reception. When I mentioned the issue I was told I could only get free WiFi from inside the bar even though the bar was shut. I tried to explain that I was told when booking in, I would still be able to access free WiFi when the bar was shut. I was told I could pay for WiFi, but now not get it for free.

Electric optional grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked: We loved the woodland walk and the stream. It was a convenient location for touring. We were given a pitch close to the toilets which was convenient. We loved the wild life.

Disliked: We didn’t like the showers, they were cold, needed a clean and the hot water took a long time to come through. We didn’t like the location in it’s proximity to a noisy road. And the wood shavings put down on the ground constantly made their way into our tent despite a daily clear out.

Electric optional grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch (premium)

Liked: Generous sized fully serviced pitch (pay extra for this) Lovely woodland walk literally off your pitch (about 1.5 miles circular) 15 mins drive from Ilfracombe. Babling Brook sounded so lovely😊 Only saw two members off staff that looked run off their feet most of the time but were so lovely & helpful. Able to order freshly baked baguettes & pastries. Great recycling facilities. Dog friendly to some degree.

Disliked: Very busy & loud main road running right next to site all times of day & night. Pitches extremely boggy due to heavy rain, caravans struggled to get off pitch without the aid of staff. Bar/cafe closed Mon/Tues during busy periods. Dogs not allowed in toilets/shower facilities or left alone in tents (not an issue for some but for solo campers it is)

Electric optional grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch (large)

Liked: Great peaceful secluded site with ample sized tent pitch. All the team we spoke with were very helpful and accommodating. Showers cubicles also spacious and well maintained together with remaining wash-room facilities. Paying extra for the electricity you use in advance did feel like an inconvenience at first however you are rewarded if you are a light user, as it feels like the pitch size is bigger than most compared to the price, and you will be refunded if you have paid more than than you use.

Disliked: You pay extra for Wi-fi access which we have not experienced yet at other camp sites. More sinks for washing-up would have been useful on occasion.

Liked: Travelled from Glasgow for an eight day stay at hidden valley and loved every bit of this wee gem of a place. Clean and tidy site with helpful staff if needed. Some lovely nature walks with plenty of wildlife. We most certainly will be back next year.

Electric optional grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch (premium)

Liked: Lovely site. Friendly staff. Clean facilities. It was really nice having the dog walk. The pitches are large enough the premium pitches have everything you need.

Disliked: The constant road noise was a big problem for me and did put me off coming back to.this site. I also paid an extra £25 for.4 devices for WiFi which was patchy and I ended up piggy backing off my phone all week.

Electric optional grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch (premium)

Liked: The site was pleasant, small onsite shop, food at the restaurant was tasty, close to nature and peaceful.

Disliked: Although the food was tasty at the restaurant the one girl working there was clearly run off her feet, everything was an inconvenience to her, wasn't made to feel welcome so most nights we ate elsewhere. The main road A361 is very close to the site, cars passing all hours and frequent, this did spoil peaceful setting. X2 play parks in desperate need of refurbishment, one of the slides had holes in the platform above.

Local attractions

Hidden Valley is four miles from two of Devon’s best-known beaches, Woolacombe and Ilfracombe, five miles from the surfing mecca of Croyde Bay and six from a family day out at the beach of Saunton Sands. The areas around all these are well worth a look, but the Victorian harbour town of Ilfracombe is a must for bucketloads of boat trips such as punts out to nearby Lundy Island, the seafront with the Landmark Theatre, and St Nicholas Chapel on Lantern Hill, where a light has shone over the harbour for over a thousand years. Bring a torch for a walk to the Ilfracombe Museum and Tunnels beach, reached by tunnels through the cliff. Many family attractions close by for all weathers, including Exmoor Zoo (25 minutes' drive) and The Big Sheep (30 minutes), while sprogs will probably also like spotting ponies in the Exmoor wilderness, getting creeped out in the dungeon labyrinths of Watermouth Castle (20 minutes) or taking to the skies in the rides at the Milky Way Adventure Park, 45 minutes away at Bideford.
