  • Small, well-kept caravan site accessible from the A35 in East Devon
  • Charmouth Beach 20 minutes’ drive; Diggerland Devon 35 minutes
  • All-day café and farm shop on site; Honiton pubs five minutes’ drive
Looking for an easy place to park up the caravan for the night, or wanting to hunker down for a few days and get to know Devon’s Jurassic Coast beaches or Blackdown Hills hiking trails? Either way, The Grazing Cow will work well for you. Five minutes’ drive from Honiton’s antique shops and pubs in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this caravan site has just a handful of easy-to-access hardstanding pitches directly off the A35. On a sheltered and level paddock, each pitch has an electric hook-up, a water supply and views over peaceful farm fields, often full of grazing cows. Toilets and showers are a couple of minutes’ walk away. You’ll find them adjacent to the popular on-site café, which serves traditional all-day English breakfasts and yummy afternoon teas until 4pm daily. In the same complex is a farm shop well stocked with local goodies, so you’ll certainly never go hungry.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Peaceful, cafe on site, shop on site, local walks and large pitch.

Disliked: Bathroom facilities nice and clean but needs more thought: Nowhere to hang clothes. Door entry method messy, needs swipe card or similar (deposit on return) and simple bolt internal lock. Inadequate ventilation meaning wet continuously in the room.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: An amazing happy welcome from the lovely lady in the shop that booked us in. Very dark, great for star gazing. Even though its on the main road, we could barely hear the traffic, lovely & peaceful surroundings. My husband had great fun watching the tractor & digger (ex-farmer). The most tastiest breakfast from the onsite cake very very friendly staff.

Disliked: The long walk to the toilet/shower block. Only 1 for the 5 pitches on site. One of the other campers was in there for over an hour, which wouldn't be fun if you were waiting to use the room. I'm glad we had a loo/shower in our campervan. The chemical waste was just basically a whole in the ground drain, not very pleasant to use, which we had to use due to lack of facilities. Not the most level of pitches, even with ramps we were on the lean.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Access to deli and restaurant. Clean toilet facilites.

Disliked: Limited facilities for 5 pitches. The comprised an all in one shower, sink and toilet. No squeegee to remove surplus floor water. Extractor fan did not appear to be working. Likewise working heater would have helped dry the room. Access to hand dryer hampered by overlarge metal cupboard. Dryer would have been better if sited adjacent to the toilet.

Liked: Don’t listen to all the Karen’s The perfect place for stop off just like us exploring Devon and Dorset each day a different place for two weeks… We stopped off at the grazing cow for the night on our summer trip and the place is lovely, perfect for stop offs..we stayed in the campsite with only 5 or 6 massive pitches it’s lovely and peaceful the shower room and toilet is clean and modern. the best thing is the onsite is a really cool cafe and farm shop serving amazing breakfasts my wife had the Mexican breakfast (so flavoursome) and I had a delicious full English breakfast and there was something the kids would actually eat too hooray!!! They staff are lovely, friendly and welcoming. Keep up the good work the grazing cow and staff and don’t listen to the haters Much love the Calvert’s

Disliked: We liked everything 😊👍

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Lovely little artisan shop and very popular onsite cafe, it was very busy for a weekday lunch so you may wish to book in advance as I suspect they get very busy on weekends. They did cater for vegans even though it didn’t look so on their menu. Sparkling clean shower/toilet. Big pitches with a lovely run of grass for the little ones to play opposite.

Disliked: No gate between the pitches and the main road anyone with more adventurous little escapees. Just one combined shower/toilet.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Nice cafe and farm shop. Lovely and quiet. Small site. Honiton village good to visit 5min drive. Seaton beach is 20min drive. Staff are really lovely and friendly and helpful. Lovely shower

Disliked: (hate the word dislike, just notes for other people booking to be aware of) No light down dark walkway to the toilet/shower. Shower/toilet is quite far. No path to walk to town or pub even though it's near.

Local attractions

On holiday with the kids? Number-one stop will probably be The Donkey Sanctuary for cuddles with the rescued donkeys and mules, while animal-mad kids can play zookeepers for the day at Axe Valley Wildlife Park (both 15 minutes’ drive). Diggerland Devon (35 minutes) will keep everyone happily occupied driving tractors and racing go-karts, and there are rollercoasters and water rides for all ages and levels of bravery at Crealy Theme Park and Resort (half an hour). If you’re after a day of R&R at the beach, there are several Jurassic Coast options close by. Make for Charmouth (20 minutes) to go foraging for fossils, and if you have dogs with you, the long stretch of shingle at Budleigh Salterton (35 minutes) is dog-friendly all year round. Keep active by hiring kayaks or paddleboards at Sidmouth Beach (25 minutes) to view dramatic white cliffs from the sea, or stroll a short section of the South West Coast Path from Seaton Beach (25 minutes) to the cutesy seaside village of Beer (half an hour’s walk), with more than its fair share of art galleries and a pretty fishing harbour.
