  • Peaceful pop-up site on an old golf course by the River Teign
  • Just outside Dartmoor National Park; Canonteign Falls five mins' drive
  • Spacious dog-friendly pitches among 100 acres of parkland
Off to Devon for a break that combines countryside and coast – and maybe a little bit of city time too? Pick a spot at Teign Valley Campsite, a pop-up site at a former golf course on the banks of the River Teign itself. With plenty of open space, fabulous valley views and just simple facilities (toilets, showers and an outdoor washing-up area in the old clubhouse), this is a splendid place for a quiet rural break. Roomy pitches are tucked away among mature trees with plenty of space for your awning, gazebo and camping chairs, and you’ll be allowed to get a blaze going in your firepit for a bit of evening warmth; logs are available to buy on site to save you hauling a stack over here. Kids and dogs are very welcome here, and should find plenty of space to scamper about within the 100 acres of surrounding parkland; just bear in mind that dogs should be kept on leads around the site and when near livestock. Being right by the river, you can also just take a stroll to the water’s edge for a paddle if you like. This is a great spot for a break packed with variety – it’s right on the edge of Dartmoor National Park for walking, climbing and other outdoor activities, and about half an hour’s drive to the coast or to Exeter city centre. Closer to home, a pub is about half a mile away and you can pick up supplies at the supermarkets in Chudleigh (10 minutes’ drive) or Bovey Tracey (15 minutes).

A peaceful pop-up site on a former golf course, offering large pitches with great views & river access. Clean loos & showers are a plus, as are the friendly hosts & flexibility. Minor shower privacy/temp noted, manager addressing. Great value & nature.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Location, space, quietness, morning croissant and coffee. Very friendly and helpful owner. Lovely pub up the Rd in Lower Ashton - make sure you book for food.

Disliked Only slight gripe was cold shower but I'm not that bothered by such things.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Loved the open spaces and the peacefulness of the site.

The river walk is beautiful and our dogs were in their elements.

Lots of spacious places to set up camp.
Toilet block clean and tidy.

Fresh water tap hooked to a hose available for water.

Access onto the pitches is easy, and road access nice and easy too.

The Manor Inn is just a short (15 minute) walk away. They serve lovely food and I recommend booking.
They didn't open until 6pm when we stayed.
To get there, walk along the hedgerow (on the left with the facilities behind you).
There is a small stone section, go left there. Across the grazing field, under a wire fence. Then veer right along the track.
Right onto the road.
Cross at the junction, over the small bridge, and the pub is just up the hill.
Coffee and pastries available.

Disliked Disliked only one toilet having a sanitary bin, there should be one in EVERY cubicle. It's a basic necessity that shouldn't be optional.
Also, the privacy issue in the ladies showers has not been addressed.
Still no lockable doors and the shower curtains are very lightweight and flimsy.
There is nowhere to undress / dry / redress privately.
The shower heads are very old and spray water in every direction except the one needed.

Only black coffee available or full on milky latte.
No white coffee on offer.

Lots of dogs off lead (the rules of dogs on leads at all times are not enforced at all. )

Our 10 month old puppy got bitten twice by the same cocker spaniel running loose, which was upsetting.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Fantastic setting with beautiful surroundings. All the pitches had plenty of space and being a golf course were nice and flat.
The facilities are great for a pop up, nice powerful showers and proper hot water in the washing up area, it all appeared to be kept spotless by the lovely couple running it.
We very much enjoyed having so much space to walk around and explore, especially the dogs. The river was a big hit in the hot weather and perfect for evening walks.
The site is easy to get out and about from to explore the area and even when busy it still felt relaxed and spacious. I really hope they open again next summer, we'd love to come back.
