  • Family glampsite in North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
  • Surfing paradise: four top surfing beaches within 15 minutes’ drive
  • Pizzas and breakfasts on summer weekends; pubs five minutes' walk away
Does hanging five and chasing gnarly breaks on the dawn patrol sound like your dream hol? (Seriously, does it? Slang is hard…) Then catch the next wave to Canvas and Coast Incledon Farm, a small site on the edge of Georgeham village, five minutes' drive from the seaside village of Croyde, Devon. If you’re not much of a surfer, don't worry – you can get there by car too... Incledon Farm is a haven for the surfing community: the surf beaches of Woolacombe, Croyde and Putsborough are all 10 minutes from the site and Saunton Sands is 15 minutes away. If you need a break from the waves, the Museum of British Surfing is well worth a visit in nearby Braunton. For those more comfortable on land than water, the site is also a top base for exploring. Ramblers can pick up the South West Coast Path in Putsborough, and cyclists can start out on National Cycle Route 278 then join Route 27. The two bipedal disciplines can meet in Braunton to get started on the Tarka Trail. When you’re tired out from exploring, make your way back to Incledon Farm to relax in peace. Cook yourself up some dinner over the barbecue or, at weekends, get a stonebaked pizza from the catering company that visits on Fridays and Saturdays. For a more romantic moment – or a family-bonding moment – fill up the picnic basket that’ll be waiting for you on arrival, and head out for a day of tastes and treats on the move. You can stock up on supplies at the local shop in Georgeham and knock back a few drinks in the village pubs (a five-minute stumble from the site) on your way back.

Local attractions

Hols don’t have to be all go or all surf and sand: if you’d prefer a leisurely stroll, point your cart towards Saunton or Ilfracombe golf clubs, both within half an hour of the site, to play a few rounds. Got kids in tow? When in Ilfracombe, be sure to make a stop at the Ilfracombe Aquarium to see some local fish; time your visit right and you’ll even be around for feeding time. If a local aquarium is too small-time for the kids, then Exmoor Zoo might satisfy: it’s half an hour from the site, and has plenty of hair-raising animals to keep the kids on their toes. When you fancy a bit more peace and quiet, hold your head up high and elegantly saunter to have a poke around Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum, half an hour from Incledon Farm on the edge of Exmoor.

Bell tent

Liked: The ease of arriving and everything already set up was fantastic. Loved that there was a food van on site (although a little pricey) lots of space with in and around the tent

Disliked: The pitch was on a very slight slope so had to move the beds around so the children didn’t roll off

Bell tent

Liked: Me and my partner had no faults with the bell tent! I had booked this back in January 2022 for his birthday in July, and I added a comment on the booking page to ask if they could decorate the tent and not to worry if they couldn't - and they did! They had put balloons around the tent, I wasn't expecting it at all; It was really lovely and it made his birthday a bit more special.

The price was fair I believe - we stayed for two nights and you have a bed made up for you when you arrive (which was so comfortable to sleep on!) and inside the tent you have a basket full of cutlery, cups, glasses and plates. You have everything there to have a BBQ and to make yourself a cup of tea. We found it really handy that we could park the car next to the tent as well, we didn't need to carry our luggage far. We forgot to bring camping chairs, but luckily they had two ready to use in the bell tent! It's only a 8-10 minute drive to Woolacombe beach as well, so it was perfect for surfing and bodyboarding.

Unfortunately on one of the nights we had a storm, so you could really hear the wind and rain battering the tent - but the tent was so stable, it wasn't really moving; if anything we found it quite cozy. On our first night the sky was so clear, there was no light pollution in the area so you could see all the stars and the milky way.

Another thing we liked as well was the food shack - we had a lovely breakfast before we went down to the beach. You can also pre-order a stone-baked pizza, but we missed out on doing this. If you're staying at the campsite for surfing/bodyboarding they put information out on the weather, the tidal times and the waves at the food shack too so you know what to expect before you go.

The site itself was lovely - the toilets and showers were always kept clean, the staff were really helpful and easy to talk to. There is so much space in the field and even though it was busy, it was spaced out well so no one could disturb you. They also had good signal in the area so you could use your phones if you needed to. All in all, I would definitely recommend this campsite to family and friends.

Disliked: The only thing my partner disliked was how bright the tent can be in the early hours of the morning. This could be avoided if you bring a sleeping mask - we forgot ours!

Liked: Tent was lovely and pretty well equipped. The farm was lovely and quiet. Showers were nice as were toilets. Lovely village with two great pubs that served lovely food.

Disliked: Inability to walk to beach realistically with surf boards or body boards etc.
