  • Peaceful site near Combe Martin, with views over the coast
  • A 15-minute drive from Ilfracombe and Exmoor Zoo
  • On the edge of Exmoor National Park and a mile from the coast path
What an enviable Exmoor location this is for a Devon camping holiday: Silver View Camping is just on the edge of the national park and around five minutes’ drive from the beach at Combe Martin. Pitches, covering two fields, have fine views over the valley and out to sea; on a clear day you’ll get glimpses of Lundy island (which you can also visit on boat trips from Ilfracombe, 15 minutes’ drive away). The setup is all very eco-friendly and relaxed: think of it as being a bit like wild camping but with the added luxury of access to drinking water, compost and flushing toilets, showers and a rubbish/recycling point. Campfires are generally allowed too for that true outdoor evening experience – the team here just ask that you consult with them first if planning a campfire or firepit, and pay attention to safety (raising your firepit off the ground and making sure all the flames are fully extinguished before you leave it). Please buy all of your wood on site. This is a handily located site for all sorts of days out – it’s about a mile from here to the South West Coast Path, and only a tiny bit further to kayak and paddleboard hire at Combe Martin beach (truly the way to explore, say the owners – and you might meet seals or dolphins along the way). There are plenty more walks and activities to be had around Exmoor National Park too, and plenty of ways to keep the kids amused with trips to Exmoor Zoo and the Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park.

This peaceful site has lovely views & a relaxed vibe. Guests love the clean, basic facilities (hot showers, flushing loos, often in cool converted horse boxes). Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked It was very peaceful and lovely views, I liked the basic facilities. It was lovely for it to be so quiet. But still near the beach in a car.

Disliked no hand soap in toilets! Otherwise, nothing.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The weather was fabulous which made our short trip so enjoyable. The site and location attracted the relaxed clientele.

Plenty of space no rules on the size of the pitch. Little walk to the toilets/showers/freezer and USB charging. The showers were good but the constant pressing the change in temp was annoying but fine. Toilets ultra clean. Unchlorinated fresh water from the borehole very nice. Friendly chap operating the site in his van - did the loop twice a day.

Recycling bins including used batteries gets a huge tick from me. Sounds of the cockerel, sheep and cows reminds you your in the countryside another bonus.

Walk down to Coombe Martin either along the the steep road or pathway. Walk back was pretty tough but more enjoyable than parking near the beach. Coastal path walking/running great. Trip to ilfracombe/Lynton/Croyde all easy drive. Lovely coastline and the verges looked cleared of rubbish. Smashing part of the country.

Coombe martin is a lovely little village, silver mining history. Great farmshop which we supported. Nice deli for cake. Finding Supermarkets were a little more of a challenge highly recommend doing research and bulk buy before arriving as not an option to pop out and get real food. Fresh meat can be sourced from the village in standard hours.

Yes, I would return but not the kind of site you want to frequent in wet weather very much fair weathered site at excellent value.

Disliked Camping adjacent to road can be noisy at night. Temp control on the showers could be temperamental.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked What a beautiful site with stunning views, short distance into Combe Martin. Plenty of room to pitch. Both fields have toilets & showers also washing up area's as well. Owner has made areas where you can charge your phones etc and even put a freezer in the shed too so you can refreeze your ice blocks.
Relaxed set up, owner pops by and check ins.

Disliked Nothing to really dislike. Sadly we has noisy neighbours late at night, who were not worried, During quiet hours on site.

From the manager: Thank you for your review and wonderful photos. We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay, sorry about the noisy neighbours.
Hope to see you again.

Local attractions

To the beach? It’s a fine suggestion, as some of north Devon’s top spots are close by. The peaceful stretch of shingle and sand at Combe Martin is your closest option (five minutes’ drive) and a lovely sheltered spot for swimming or paddleboarding. A little further along the coast, stop in at Ilfracombe (15 minutes) for the unusual Tunnels beaches accessed via hand-carved tunnels, or to board boat trips for a sea safari or an outing to Lundy island. There’s an aquarium here too for a handy damp-day activity. Woolacombe (25 minutes) is another good choice for a beach trip, especially if you’re into your surfing. Away from the coast there are plenty of other options for family days out, including Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (five minutes) and Exmoor Zoo (15 minutes) for animal encounters and Watermouth Castle (10 minutes) for rides and kid-friendly attractions. You may also like to see all the old vehicles at Arlington Court & National Trust Carriage Museum, take a ride on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway (both 15 minutes) or pedal bikes along the traffic-free Tarka Trail from Barnstaple (25 minutes).
