If you’re heading to North Devon for surfing, cycling and long walks with your four-legged friend, you’ve hit bullseye. Lobb Fields Caravan and Camping Park, a family-oriented site a five-minute drive from Braunton village, has an atmosphere of relaxation and togetherness that includes a welcome for visiting dogs. The site is on the outskirts of the peaceful North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so it’s surrounded by some of the region’s most sublime landscapes. Saunton Sands, a surfing and swimming beach with sandy dunes, is a 40-minute walk away (or a five-minute drive). There’s a surfing academy close by (five minutes’ drive) for those who’d like to take their surfing skills to the next level. Just head to the big blue bus overlooking Croyde beach to kickstart your sessions; it doesn’t matter what age you are or howinexperienced you are. Paddleboarding taster sessions, courses and half- or full-day tours are also on their schedule. The site’s owners believe that a holiday should include all the family, so canines are welcome year-round, and there’s a dog walk on site to make sure that they get timely walkies. Foodies, never fear, there are plenty of tasty treats to tuck into around here. Nearby Braunton village is packed with characterful independent restaurants, shops, delis, bars and cafés (plus the Museum of British Surfing, if you fancy it). A few foodie spots recommended by the site include a café with specialty coffee and doughnuts (15 minutes’ walk), a rum bar (20 minutes) and a fish and chip shop (20 minutes) that serves renowned crisped cod in batter (with mushy peas, naturally). There’s also an independent shop selling cool handcrafted jewellery.

What customers say

Lobb Fields gets the nod for spotless facilities, especially the showers and loos. Staff are grand and helpful, pitches are roomy with great views and peace. It's spot on for trips to the beach and towns. Food vans are a bonus, though a couple of folk found the shower cubicles a bit snug and pitches could do with a bit more levelling.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Large pitches, our plot 104 was close to the toilets/showers which were plentiful and large shower cubicles with shelves for toiletries and plenty of hooks. Convenient little honesty shop next to reception and also 2 x food vans serving a good variety of food for dinner when you just can’t be bothered to cook or leave the site. Fresh croissants and pain au chocolat on sale each morning from reception and it’s a 15minute walk into Braunton and the excellent fish and chips from Squires!

Disliked Nothing!

Liked Good clean shower blocks

Disliked Bit hilly and doesn’t have hosepipe taps only household tap to fill motorhome up so if not filled tank in motorhome and on ramps you have to take off to drive up the site to fill up

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We’re really pleased you found the shower blocks clean and well maintained.

We appreciate your feedback regarding the water taps and will be swapping the taps over during our winter maintenance period so they will be all new for next season.

Liked We had a fantastic time at this campsite! The little shop is brilliant, and the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and welcoming. They genuinely took the time to get to know you, and you can really tell how passionate they are about making sure everyone has a great stay.

There were some great food vans on site, a lovely kids’ play area, and plenty of clean toilets and showers, so we never had to wait around. Overall, a really well-run campsite with a lovely atmosphere. We’d definitely come back!

Disliked The ladies loos could do with the doors looking at just to stop them slamming at night time.

Thank you as well for mentioning the ladies’ loo doors. We really appreciate the feedback and have adjusted the mechanism now so it no longer bangs when closing.

We’d love to welcome you back again soon!

Local attractions

The Tarka Trail (20 minutes’ walk) is a 180-mile route inspired by the travels of the famed literary otter. Walk along more than 30 miles of disused railway tracks between Braunton and Meeth, or head to Barnstaple (15 minutes’ drive), where you can hire a bike for faster progress through salt marshes, woodland and riverside meadows. The coastal town of Ilfracombe (20 minutes) is known for four Victorian tunnels leading to sheltered beaches, rugged coves and rockpools. If you’re after a wide expanse of sand, Woolacombe (20 minutes) might be more up your street. Lifeguarded and dog-friendly, this is a popular spot for windsurfing and bodyboarding. There are big cats, wolves and lifesize dinosaur models at Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park (half an hour). If you're after more approachable beasties, at the BIG Sheep (half an hour), kids can bottle-feed lambs and meet pygmy goats, rabbits and puppies.
