  • Adults-only site on the edge of Exmoor National Park
  • Dark sky reserve and top spot for stargazing
  • Dog-friendly site with designated off-lead areas and agility kit
Switch off from the outside world at Devon Banks Caravan and Camping Park in north Devon, where guests follow a quiet country laneway to an adults-only site with fully peaceful vibes. Devon Banks is less than a mile from the outer edge of Exmoor National Park and its network of walks and trails. Those more comfy getting about on two wheels are also well served around here, as Cycle Route 3 – from Bristol to Land’s End, should you fancy it – passes a mile from the site. The site is quiet and secluded, but no need to fret about being cut off from civilisation – it’s a five-minute drive or 30-minute walk from the small village of Challacombe, where you can stock up on essentials or have a bite at the bar-restaurant. If you don’t fancy the trip to Challacombe, embrace outdoor cooking instead: Exmoor National Park is a dark sky reserve, so tuck into a burger straight from the barbecue while gazing up at the stars. Devon Banks is dog-friendly too, so feel free to bring your best buddy along for the trip. Fido will have plenty of time to burn off some energy in the three-acre off-lead dog field, which has some basic agility kit and logs to jump. A professional agility area is also available for those with skills, and there's also a sole-use field you can hire for dogs with poor recall (charge applies for these last two). Dog gardens are permitted too if you'd rather set up your own space.

Local attractions

Exmoor National Park is a prime spot for avid walkers and outdoor enthusiasts, but it has more to offer than ways to stretch your legs: the park is crammed with pretty villages, historic ruins and native wildlife. History buffs can explore Dunster Castle, a 45-minute drive from Devon Banks, or Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum, 20 minutes from the site. Those searching for something a little more active should head to Combe Martin, a seaside village on the northern edge of Exmoor, 20 minutes from the site: hire kayaks to explore the Devon coastline, or take a guided kayak tour of the Combe Martin bay with local experts – don’t forget to watch out for dolphins… In the village of Lynton, 25 minutes from Devon Banks, throw yourself back in time with a short trip on the Lynton and Barnstaple Steam Railway or put your feet up in the small luxury cinema. Top off your trip by unwinding from all of this activity with some pampering treatments at Challacombe's Home Place Farmhouse Spa, less than five minutes away.
