Can you hear Cornwall’s coastline calling? You probably will be able to from Carruan Farm – this small pop-up site is a mile from Polzeath beach and the South West Coast Path, up on the county’s craggy north coast. You’ll be able to look out over some spectacular sea views from here – and that makes for a particularly fine backdrop come sunset time. But surely you’ll want to get down there for a closer look, and that’s easily done from the farm, as there are footpaths running down to Polzeath, Rock and Daymer Bay. Each one has its own style and activities – kayaking, paddleboarding, windsurfing and surfing (with lessons and kit hire available) are among the options you’ll get at the various beaches. It’s a very simple setup at this peaceful farm site – pitches are for tents only, with access to just the essential facilities (toilets and showers). For safety reasons, open fires and firepits aren’t allowed, and you’ll be asked to park in the parking area up at the top of the site (rather than driving down to the pitches). Restaurants, pubs and cafés and a small supermarket are all a mile away in Polzeath, but if you want to pick up more extensive supplies you’ll be better off at the shops in Wadebridge, 15 minutes’ drive away.
