  • Bell tent glamping on the north Cornish coast, minutes from beaches
  • Close to the UNESCO World Site of St Agnes
  • Rent a Cobb oven for pizza or roast chicken on the beach
Well now. This is really rather lovely. Wind your way down to Ysella Glamping on the north Cornishg coast, for luxury bell tent glamping among spectacular scenery, on a peaceful and eco-friendly site with loads of space: the diligent owners carefully limit the number of bell tents available at any time so guests are guaranteed plenty of room to roam about. Bell tents at this secluded site are set among two scenic acres close to St Agnes, all safely vehicle free – just park up at the site entrance and borrow a wheelbarrow to trundle all your kit. The tents each sleep four people and come with heating, lighting, kitchen equipment, a picnic table and patio. Beds are made up before you arrive. Food is sorted with style here: as well as bagging bread and breakfast hampers (order these in advance) from the small honesty shop open for an hour every morning and evenings, guests can hire Cobb ovens which can bake pizzas and roast chicken as well as grill and barbecue. Burning coconut oil (a renewable energy source), they can be used at the beach for long and lazy evenings cooking up in this cracking part of Cornwall. Amenities are well covered at the washroo amrea with heated showers and flushing toilets, as well as a covered kitchen area for washing up. A communal barbecue and seating area are also on site, along with solar-power charging units for phones and iPads, available to hire.

Route directions

The best approach is from the A30: leave the roundabout at Three Borrows onto the B3277 leading into St Agnes. You will see Goonbell sign posted (1 mile) on a turning to the right. Take the right turn and follow the road towards St Agnes and Goonbell for about a mile. Take the second right at Goonbell and continue down the road of terrace houses: the road curves around to the left, where it becomes more rural. The site is on your right.

Local attractions

The ancient village of St Agnes on the north Cornish coast is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site covering Cornish mining. Spectacular beaches such as Portreath and Porthtowan are close to hand for sand days, swimming and access to the South West Coast Path. Watersports are big around here too: kayak tours go out daily from Trevaunance Cove to hidden coves and shores; there's world-famed surfing at four of the Blue Flag beaches nearby, and plenty of surf schools around for lessons and kit hire. Coasteering and paddleboarding are also available nearby. On land, arrange a horse ride from nearby Goonbell Riding Centre, based in St Agnes, or potter around the coast and its villages for shopping, fresh seafood and St Agnes Cornish beer. You could also head into town for the day: Truro is eight miles away, Newquay 12, Falmouth 15 and St Ives 23.
