  • An off-grid and peaceful pop-up site on a small farm in Cornwall
  • Hayle, St Michael’s Mount and St Ives all 15 minutes’ drive
  • Wildlife haven with livestock on site; pub 10 minutes’ stroll away
If you’re searching for a simple, no-frills farm stay in Cornwall, you’ve hit the bullseye at Old Ivy Farm Camping, a back-to-basics pop-up site 10 minutes’ drive from seaside Hayle and roughly equidistant between the north and south coasts for days of discovering spectacular beaches. Approached down a leafy track, the spacious grass pitches are sheltered by trees and surrounded by wildlife including a myriad of birds, roe deer and foxes. Nothing here is manicured or polished – it’s a down-to-earth, natural setting where you can relax and slow down. Guests have access to a washing-up sink, shared compost toilet and a lovingly crafted shower shed, but there’s no electricity and no facilities for chemical toilets. Fancy eating out? There’s a pub 10 minutes’ stroll away, and if you’re sparking up the barbecue, you can pick up supplies in the local farm shop (five minutes’ drive). The owners live on site, and ask that everything – and everyone – is quiet by 9pm to keep the wildlife in the hedgerows and the neighbours happy. The property is shared with chickens, pet sheep and a dog, so pets are not allowed in the interest of keeping everything calm for the resident animals.

Liked Beautiful land with lovely plots nestled into it. The space is so well cared for and the facilities are perfect. Such a great shower room. Beautiful views. Sophie, Greg and family are so welcoming and I really enjoyed my stay. A perfect location if you want to pop between places on the North and South coast. Nothing is far away.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We liked the wildness, the friendly welcoming host family and the dark skies stargazing. A small cozy number of good sized pitches bordered by trees and Cornish hedges with rustic facilities. My daughter says it's the best composting toilet she's ever used. The gas heated shower and hot water to the kitchen area add a touch of luxury. Good central location to access either coast.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked What a lovely site. Only 3 pitches all with stunning rural views. Great reception when we arrived, friendly and informative but not intrusive.Very quiet, the perfect relaxing getaway. There's a compost toilet and separate shower shed both exceptionally clean and well maintained. Pub a short stroll into the village. We even cycled to Marazion which is only 7 miles away. A real gem for those who want to avoid the commercial sites.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We stayed at Old Ivy on 7th August and feel we have found a treasure of a campsite in Cornwall.
It's so peaceful and Beautiful. You are surrounded by nature. Sophie and Greg are just amazing hosts and so helpful to what ever we needed and information on the area. Hayle's beaches are close by and we had the greatest time body boarding. Cream teas, pasties all on your doorstep. They keep the site so clean and tidy. There is a lovely Shower room, washing up area and compost Toilet all emaculate.
Old Ivy gave us a total feeling of peace and watching the sunrise in the morning was a total treat!! We can't wait to come back and thank you for your lovely welcome to Old Ivy campsite.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Big skies, big hearts, and space to breathe.

A truly beautiful little campsite. There is something so special about this place, the wide open skies, the peaceful surroundings, and the feeling that you can finally slow down, exhale and simply breathe.

Perhaps the loveliest thing of all is the big hearts behind this little corner of the world. You can feel the care, warmth and love that has gone into creating such a welcoming and peaceful place.

A little slice of heaven for anyone looking to reconnect with nature, themselves, and the simple joy of having nowhere else to be. We left with full hearts and lighter spirits, and very much hope to return soon.

Local attractions

You can head to the beach at Hayle (10 minutes’ drive), which extends for three miles between Hayle Estuary and Godrevy Point, for long walks along the dunes, rockpools full of sea life and surfing when wind and wave conditions are right. Turn south and you can be on Long Rock Beach with a 20-minute drive, with calm waves for watersports and views over to the tiny island of St Michael’s Mount and its abbey (15 minutes), which is accessible on foot when the tide is out. The culture lovers among you will probably want to spend an afternoon perusing great art in the galleries of St Ives (15 minutes), which includes the Cornish branch of the Tate and The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. You can also pop into the Porthminster Gallery to check out outstanding work by up-and-coming contemporary artists. If you’re into ancient history, then the Penwith Heritage Coast (half an hour) down on Cornwall’s toe is the place for you – it’s knee-deep in neolithic and Bronze Age monuments like The Merry Maidens and Tregeseal stone circles (both 35 minutes) set on untamed heathland, and Lanyon Quoit burial chamber (half an hour), reached by a short walk from the road.
