  • Family site within walking distance of Bude and surfing beaches
  • Around half an hour's walk to a deli, bakery, cafés, pubs and tapas
  • Couples also welcome; seashell craft studio on site
If you're looking for a base to explore north Cornwall and all of its stunning scenery, take a good, long look at Atlantic Camping. Just off the A39, the 26-acre farm site has pitches set among gorgeous planted Cornish palms. Take a 25-minute stroll down past the local bakery to reach the cobblestone wharf along the canal path. There are several restaurants and cafés where you might want to grab a coffee, ice cream or something to eat. From there, it's only another 15 minutes' walk to the beach – where it's high time you ditched those shoes – or 20 to the Bude Sea Swimming Pool, a semi-natural tidal pool on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. With four beaches set within a four-mile radius of the site, there's plenty to do, whether you're keen to hire a surfboard, try some watersports or hike along the South West Coast path directly from Bude. Bude also has a links golf course with views of the coast and countryside, a leisure centre with an indoor pool, wave machine and waterslide and plenty of pubs selling lush Cornish cider. Back on site, while away any downcast days in the Seashell Craft Studio, making mirrors, picture frames or plant pots. For outdoor activities, there's a small play park and a designated pitch for ball games. The site also has a shower block with heated showers, toilets, washing-up facilities and an eco waste disposal point. No need to cram in too many extra clothes either; the on-site laundry facilities accept contactless payments. For grocery shopping and other everyday needs, Atlantic Camping is within walking distance of a 24-hour shop and a short drive away from supermarkets and shops selling hardware and car parts. And if it's more tourist destinations that you're looking for, the site is half an hour's drive from Bocastle, 40 minutes from Tintagel and just over an hour from Padstow.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked The site on the whole was lovely. Beautiful shrubs & plants. Walkable distance to bude shortcut via the campsite footpath & through the industrial park. Or the park & ride just across the road. Summer season only.Would be good to make improvements on the toilets/showers.

Disliked The showers & toilets are very basic. Plywood with galvanised roof. Gaps around doors. No hand drying, blowers or paper towels. Could do with improvement to bring it in keeping with the rest of the site. It would make such a difference. We stayed just the 1 night as we were passing through. On arrival we were told by the man in reception we were not allowed to empty our toilet cassette on our stay as we were only booked for 1 night & that they had to make some money! Not shown a map of the site on arrival. Just told our pitch number & left to find it.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Great location just off A39. Good sized pitch with planted areas between each pitch for good privacy. Very peaceful site. Nicely landscaped. EHU and water easily accessible.

Disliked Toilet and shower cabins need a bit of TLC. The door bolts are really rusty and hard to close. There are big gaps around some of the doors that make it possible to see into the cabins while you're in there. The toilet flushing buttons are broken on several of the toilets making them hard to flush. The level of cleanliness could be improved - quite dirty floors in some of the toilets, foliage growing in from the outside under the walls, lots of cobwebs.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Fantastic staff and stunning pitch views

Disliked Although we enjoyed our stay, I wouldn't want to be here when it's really busy. It would feel quite a tight squeeze, and there didn't seem to be enough toilets and showers if the site was fully booked. There are walks directly from the site, but it's an extremely long walk to the beach.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Peaceful, pretty little site. Well kept pitch’s. Hot showers. All we needed for a couple of nights away.

Disliked There was a little confusion when we arrived. Took a few calls on the phone to check-in as there was nobody in reception. Older chap answered the phone and commented that we’d arrived a bit late. I did put between 7 and 8pm in the suggested arrival time and it was only 7:45 pm. Tried to overcharge for our awning until I showed them the price on the website. Given a pitch that someone was already in. The facilities could do with a little TLC.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Loved the look of the place, it is so well kept - even the loos are landscaped! Looked at the map (Google and OS) to find best walking route to Bude but didn't fancy a trek along the A39 - amazingly the campsite has built its own footpath to avoid the A39 and signposted the way to Bude. Nice views from the pitch. 12 is a generous time to check out. Very warm and friendly welcome

Disliked Having to leave

Local attractions

The beaches of Bude are rightly famed for their golden sands, clean water and surfing breaks: get along to Summerleaze and Crooklets within Bude for surf, and to the National Trust-managed Sandymouth for a quieter vibe via its steep ravine. The long sands and popular surfing waves of Widemouth Bay are a few miles from Bude, Crackington Haven is within eight miles, and the family-friendly beach of Northcott Mouth is a top spot nearby for rockpooling. In Bude town, spend a morning wandering around the harbour and Bude's buildings – including the oldest in town, Quay Cottage, and the heritage centre now housed in Bude Castle. Then, perhaps tackle the South West Coast Path from Bude Canal to Crackington Haven, and then further south to Boscastle and Tintagel…? Horse riding, cycling, ten-pin bowling, fishing, tennis and golf are all available in the region too.
