  • Glamping site in the Surrey Hills, 10 minutes' drive from Redhill
  • Less than an hour's journey from central London by train
  • Chessington World of Adventures half an hour's drive away
If you’re searching for a base for a varied holiday – think lazy woodland strolls one day, adrenaline-filled theme park adventures the next, and a bit of sightseeing in the capital for good measure – get yourself to Alderstead Heath Experience Freedom Glamping. This peaceful and family-friendly site is surrounded by woodland in the Surrey Hills, 10 minutes’ drive from Redhill town centre. This is a particularly fine spot for cyclists and walkers, as it’s handy for the North Downs and close to a network of off-road trails, such as the Pilgrims’ Way, and themed walks including the Tilgate Forest Trail and Wandle Art Trail. For a change of pace (and heart rate) there’s a clutch of theme parks conveniently close to base. Chessington World of Adventures is half an hour’s drive away – it also has a Go Ape adventure park, a Sea Life Centre and a zoo to really wear you (and, perhaps more importantly, the kids) out. If you haven’t quite got your adrenaline fix, Thorpe Park is about 40 minutes from the site. It’s also easy to make a day trip to London while you’re here – catch a fast service at Redhill train station and you can be checking out the bright lights of the capital within an hour. Take a break from full-pelt activity for some time on site: there's a playground and playing field here, plus a wifi connection to help plan shenanigans for the following day. A handy launderette is also on site to help sort any muck acquired on days out.

Local attractions

Pack a picnic and get stuck into some family games at Reigate Hill and Gatton Park (10 minutes' drive), a pretty parkland with flower-scattered grasslands and shaded woodland. There’s history to be had here too, with Reigate Fort to discover, or you can continue your walk to Box Hill, a summit of the North Downs, and stop for a snack to reward your trekking efforts. For more green scenes, the woodland and meadows at Happy Valley Park (15 minutes) are home to nature trails, horse rides and play areas. Those who don’t mind a bit of damp can sign up for dinghy riding, windsurfing, kayaking and paddleboarding at Aqua Sports (10 minutes). Or stick to land for your thrills and check out Go Zorbing, a woodland zorbing track, and Go Paintball (10 minutes), a place that's sure to meet approval from competitive siblings. There’s more adrenaline to be pumped on a flying experience at Redhill Aviation Flight Centre (15 minutes), and Surbiton Raceway (30 minutes) is a must-visit for speed demons.

Glamping pod microlodge

Liked: The cabin was so well equipped and very clean. We found it to be a very high standard, when we arrived the staff were amazingly helpful. The bathroom and shower was great.

Disliked: the bed could do with a topper as could feel the springs abit but we slept ok. The blue light was a bit bright too,

Glamping pod microlodge

Liked: - cozy little house with everything needed in it. - quiet area. - friendly personal

Disliked: - no much to do inside of the area, so needs driving everywhere, but shops and some activities are close by - green light on the ceiling distracts sleeping a bit, it is quite bright and located right under the bed

Glamping pod microlodge

Liked: The location was perfect for us and the glamping pod was exactly as expected. It was clean and very well designed with plenty of places to put our things for a short stay. Great location for walking with plenty of other walking routes still to explore.

Disliked: The interior safety light was very bright during the night - I ended up covering up for the second night to get some sleep. Due to the drought conditions we were unable to use the BBQ which made just having a toaster and microwave very limiting. Eating out with a family is too expensive so we had to be creative. We didn't allow these things to ruin our short break and we would return again.

Glamping pod microlodge

Liked: Facilities, security and pods were great with high quality equipment. Lots of green spaces and great playground for the kids.

Disliked: With the pods there was only one car park allowed near the pod and our group had two cars - this was a bit challenging. And no firepit policy was disappointing for the kids. These are the only reasons why I can't rate 5 star... all the rest was great.

From the manager: Hi Serhat, thank you for you your great review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay and can only apologise for any disappointment the no firepit policy caused.
