  • Quiet family-friendly farm site on eight acres of Kent farmland
  • A 45-minute drive from Hastings; half an hour to the coast
  • Fishing lake and kitchen facilities on site; fresh eggs to buy
Heading to the Kent countryside in a quest for a rural retreat near to steam railways, castle ruins and vineyards? As well as assorted farm animals on site, there are eight acres of farmland at Setts Wood Camping and Glamping, including a fishing lake (charges apply) and a wooded area for classic games of hide and seek. Down a private lane and well away from the road, there is certainly plenty of unwinding to be done at this quiet site. Don't worry about being too far removed though, as it's still within reach of several historic towns including Hastings (a 45-minute drive away), and has several sandy beaches within half an hour’s drive. The local town of Tenterden is five minutes’ drive away for a convenient collection of breweries, restaurants and supermarkets where you can pick up supplies for a picnic or a barbecue back at the farm. You can also buy fresh free-range eggs on site every morning, in a splendid selection of different colours. Store any leftovers in the communal fridge and make use of the other kitchen facilities such as a kettle and sink. Other handy facilities include toilets and a shower block, for washing off any grains of sand accumulated from the beaches at Camber Sands and Dymchurch, both within half an hour’s drive.

What customers say

Lovely peaceful spot, loads of room for kids. Great facilities, clean showers, handy kitchen. Alpacas and sheep a big hit with families. Mostly grand, just a few grumbles about noise or wanting more loos/showers in busy times. Ideal for a chilled family break.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Well laid out, clean and beautiful setting (sunsets lovely in the first field). Felt safe with the children to run and be wild, they loved feeding the alpacas chopped carrots and fishing in the lake. Toilets and shower were perfect for camping couldn’t ask for more. Lots of hand washing stations with soap and the kitchen amenities were greatly appreciated in the hot weather. Have recommended to family already and will be back ASAP. Don’t hestitate to choose this place for the perfect family adventure.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The campsite is just pure bliss! Peace and quiet which was much needed. We arrived on Friday night and quickly set up our tent we positioned ourselves not far from the toilet and shower block which were very clean and great hot showers. On site there are an array of different animals to see and bales of hay for the kids to climb on. There is a small hut with kitchen appliances (kettle, fridge, electric sockets where we blew up our beds) Also on site there is a great fishing pond where my son caught a good size carp and had lots of bites. There is also a beginner pond which has smaller fish in for the little ones. Fires are permitted and Jackie brings the wood round for the fire pits which are provided. Dogs are welcome. All in all a perfect weekend.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked It has been our second time here. We love it! The location is beautiful and quiet, the sheep, lambs alpacas and horses were lovely to watch for the kids. There is a fishing pond as well. The facilities are clean and tidy, with kettles and microwave, shower and toilets. It is very near to the local town, Tenterden. There are metal baskets to put fire in which the kids loved.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked This was our first ever camping trip as a family with a 1 year old. Setts Wood is absolutely fantastic, we absolutely loved our time here. The location itself is very tranquil and picturesque with views spreading across lots of green space with some wonderful views to be had. The site itself was very well laid out. The fishing lake was very enjoyable and we had a couple of decent carp out of it. The facilities, let’s be honest, it’s what’s put us off of camping forever! The facilities were very good. Clean and tidy, very well kept, well laid out and easily accessed. The shower was also decent and clean and very much needed after the 30deg day we had. We also had no queueing or waiting around.

Our little one is 15 months old, there was plenty of space for her to run around in which was fantastic. The sheep and alpacas were of huge interest to her as well!

We also took our dog who got on here just fine, again plenty of space for them to charge about in. Think he was living the dream whilst we was here to be honest!

The location was great, it was laid out very well, really well presented. As I say, I’ve never been camping before, but I really do think you’ll struggle to find anything better for the money, in this area, with such a great layout.

See you again soon!!

Disliked Not much to dislike at all!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked surrounded by green fields, good facilities, large pitches which mean you can stay with your party

Disliked it was advertised that children could play on bales of hay but that was not possible and the wooded area was tiny and overgrown for children to access

Bell tent

Liked Exceptional Spot!
Perfect location right near the lake for fishing. Friendly owners. Comes with everything you need for camping- including a gas stove ! The communal kitchen is super handy, and the bonus? Friendly alpacas roaming nearby and surprisingly comfy beds. Can’t recommend it enough for a relaxing, well-equipped nature escape.

Disliked The neighbouring tent disrespected the 10pm rule. My boys slept but they kept me up till 2pm - only downfall. Everything else superb … humans aye ?

From the manager: So sorry about the neighbouring tent :( it was lovely to meet you and hopefully see you another time

Find your end destination in Hastings (45 minutes), where you can visit the underground tunnels of smugglers' old haunts, roam the ruins of an 11th-century Norman castle or stay in the modern-day with a stroll along the amusement pier. Play like royalty in more turrets and ruins, including Bodiam Castle (25 minutes), Sissinghurst Castle (20 minutes) and Leeds Castle (35 minutes). Or perhaps turn towards the historic towns of Tenterden (five minutes) and Rye (20 minutes) or the landscaped gardens at the fanciful Hole Park (15 minutes) and Great Dixter House & Gardens (25 minutes).
