Liked: Fantastic stay. Toilet and shower blocks were kept lovely and clean throughout a busy bank holiday period. Small little shop onsite carried essentials that were helpful. Staff helpful and friendly. Local area was great, lovely walks along the river. All had a great time.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Excellent and friendly staff. Access to the river for paddle boarding and boating is excellent and easy.Fields are very large and great for big to small groups which includes families. Would only return because of the river which is a shame as it could be a wonderful campsite.

Disliked: The only disappointment of the camping site is that there is only one toilet block for the entire site which can lead to a long walk. What's also very disappointing is the state and size of the toilet block. Only 3 cubicles for the men and 5 for the women. This accommodates the entire site for potentially hundreds of people.when we left at 8am in the morning only one cubicle was running due to the lack of toilet paper and cleanliness. Shame really, toilet block is needed on each field.

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us especially over the extremely busy Bank Holiday weekend. We have 2 toilet and shower blocks next to each other and they were both open all weekend (1 would close at a time to enable thorough cleaning) you must have only used the smaller ones(with the wooden steps) perhaps the larger ones were being cleaned when you went to use them and once cleaned the one you used would have been cleaned straight after the cleaned ones were re-opened. We look forward to welcoming you again, if you can try to avoid Bank Holidays your visit would be more pleasant.

Disliked: Could of done with more facilities maybe in the corner of each field as a long way to go at night if needed

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us especially over the extremely busy Bank holiday weekend. We have lots of fields for people to enjoy spreading out in away from other campers if they choose to, therefore the further away from the amenities the longer the walk or drive but the more peaceful it becomes. Some guests bring toilet tent facilities for night time use. We hope to see you again soon.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: This was the third time we’ve camped at Hop Farm and took friends for their first time camping. We’re fond of the amount of space that Hop Farm has to offer, it allows you privacy, good washroom/toilet facilities and lovely walks through the woods and by the river.

Disliked: We were disappointed that the children’s park is closed for refurbishment this year but understand that this is necessary.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Nice area and pitch

Disliked: None of what I booked was correct many large dogs off leads late music motor bikes riding around in the field past mid night. We may just have picked a bad weekend but looks and seems to be no control in what goes on with large groups, nobody checking.

From the manager: I am sorry you did not enjoy your Bank Holiday stay with us. Bank Holiday weekends are the busiest and for many people it is an opportunity to get together with family and friends. As you can see by other reviews many guests had no problems or issues whilst staying the same weekend. If you had any any concerns whilst staying you could have contacted us, the office was open from 830am until at least 730pm after this time we are available on the mobile number printed on the front of your check-in cards when arriving. We came around the whole of the site a few times during the day and evening (clearly visible by the gator we drove) and a few guests did call us over to ask for information. We did the 10pm site check and were out on site for over 1 hour, after this we do not come out unless we are called out by guests (we live on site all year round next to the touring office). The campsite is open to the river with several public footpaths and the general public do walk through refusing to put their dogs on leads. We also had a camping and caravan club on site hiring one of the fields. I spoke to the marshalls a few times and no issues were raised. It is a shame that you have said you will not visit again or recommend us as outside Bank Holidays the campsite is completely different. There are lots of lovely walks without even leaving the 500 acres.

Local attractions

Once the kids let you off site, Kent (aka The Garden of England) has beaches, historic towns, forests and more castles, stately homes (and gardens) open to the public than anywhere else in the country. If this isn't enough, Paddock Wood railway station is five minutes’ drive from The Hop Farm for a train to London, less than an hour away. Dover is within 60 miles for a day trip to France. Kent has 350 miles of coastline, with Blue Flag beaches, watersports and those famous white cliffs at Dover. Eight of the 11 Blue Flaggers are in Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs; Whitstable and Herne Bay are also popular with oyster eaters, anglers and jetskiers. There are umpteen options for families in the area including play centres, farms, horse riding and days out. Howletts Wild Animal Park at Canterbury has the biggest group of looked-after gorillas in the world and experiences for visitors such as junior ranger days. Penshurst Place and Gardens has historical re-enactments, children’s trails, an adventure playground and special events during the school holidays. Both Leeds Castle at Maidstone and Hever Castle near Edenbridge are family-friendly and packed with activities and events. There’s a Go Ape! at Leeds Castle as well as two mazes, boat trips, falconry displays, underground grotto and the Knights' Realm Playground, a scale model of the castle (and a golf course and golf instruction for the grownups). Hever, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, has a yew maze and water maze, award-winning gardens and a topiary. Back with the big folk, the old market towns of Tonbridge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Wells are close by for shopping and sightseeing. Bluewater shopping centre is in Greenhithe (rival Lakewater is just over the Essex border at West Thurrock).
