  • Small quiet site with country views, near the River Thames’ mouth
  • Five minutes' walk from Allhallows and a 25-min drive from Rochester
  • Birdwatching, coastal walks and shipwrecks all within 15 minutes
To maraud around the mouth of one of the mightiest rivers on the planet, a stay at Allhallows Place Touring Park could very well be in order: as well as close proximity to the Thames, this laidback site also has views of farmland from all angles. It’s just over five minutes on foot from to the local shops, takeaways and pubs of Allhallows village from here and the setting’s swish for many other reasons too, as Allhollows is only a 10-minute drive from where the Thames meets the north Kent coast. This lovely corner of Kent is also close to the Grain Coastal Park (15 minutes’ drive away) and has many a fortified building to investigate – from the Grain Tower Battery and Fort Darnet (both also 15 minutes' drive) to Slough Fort (a 20-minute walk). Living in London (or setting off for the English capital next…)? Allhallows is less than an hour and 20 minutes from the capital, with potential stops along the way including Shorne Woods Country Park for trails through woodland, wetland and meadows (20 minutes’ drive) and the Art Deco house of Eltham Palace (less than an hour). Being by the seaside, there are also many maritime attractions to check out, including the UB122 World War 1 German U Boat wreck 10 minutes’ drive away.

Local attractions

When it’s twitching time, RSPB Northward Drive (15 minutes’ drive from the site) is tiptop: toddle over here to see marsh harriers while looking out over the Thames Marshes. A bluebell wood, rookery and cherry orchard are also at the reserve – as well as chances to sight wigeons, lapwings and grey herons. If you’re thinking Kent’s castles might be worth a look too, you’d be right – Cooling’s is 15 minutes drive away while Hadleigh’s is an hour. A little closer to the park for town times are Chatham and Rochester, each around a 25-minute drive, for yet another castle as well as a 14th-century cathedral. For a rather different experience, a theme park dedicated to construction-related amusement is around here too. Finished with travelling in the UK? Further on in Folkestone (an hour and 15 minutes), you can flee over to France on the ferry or Eurotunnel.
