  • Luxury glamping site on a rural Kent farm 40 miles from London
  • Within walking distance of vineyards; a 25-minute drive to Bewl Water
  • Fresh eggs available, walks on the farm and firepits for stargazing
Step off the train at Marden station in Kent and stroll headfirst into a dog-friendly haven with firepits, vineyards and late-night stargazing. Gravel Pit Farm is the name – and it’s a mere 15 minutes’ stroll from the station. Small, remote and utterly uncrowded, this glamping site has a one-and-a-half-acre field with two firepits and a covered pergola measuring seven by 11 metres for alfresco dining and celebrations (even if that’s just a celebration of your first visit to the gorgeous Kent countryside). Based on the edge of Marden village, a bunch of pubs, cafés and restaurants are within walking distance of your new temp abode. It’s a top spot to kickstart your Kent explorations, with two vineyards being within walking distance too (25 minutes and an hour’s walk respectively). That’s not to mention canoeing on the river Medway (15 minutes’ drive) and paddleboarding and other watersports at Bewl Water (25 minutes). For all of the glamping site’s mod cons, however, Gravel Pit Farm still hasn’t lost touch with the outdoors. You could say it’s wild on the outside and cosy on the inside. There are numerous walks around the farm and neighbouring farms and on a clear night, the big open skies sparkle with stars. Fresh eggs can be collected daily, laid by the free-range hens. It all feels gloriously private. The views of the open paddock are especially splendid when the sunset makes its nightly dash behind the skyline. After dark, light up a firepit and perch on one of the small benches provided. A welcome pack is provided when you arrive, along with essentials like tea, coffee and marshmallows and sticks for toasting.
