  • Peaceful site surrounded by lakes, on the edge of the New Forest
  • Bookable activities including high ropes, climbing and abseiling
  • Play area, table tennis, café and shop; toilet blocks with hot showers
Set up camp for a night or several at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre and Campsite set in 65 acres in the New Forest, for guaranteed busy days among a wide range of forest adventures. Among the outdoor adventures and field study activities here (which must be booked in advance and are subject to availability), you can try high and low ropes, climbing and abseiling, archery, zipwire and heaps more under the eyes of its experienced instructors – or take yourself off under your own guidance for orienteering, treasure hunting, mountain biking and fishing in its lush surrounding lakes.... Happily, a café serving the likes of jacket potatoes, paninis etc is here too so that adventurers don't have far to forage when it comes to light bites, and if you need a day off from all the action the site also has a play area and free wifi. (Table tennis and kid-sized bouldering walls are around too if you really can't help yourself...) The several amenities blocks are well equipped with a toilet block with hot showers, a baby-changing room and washing-up facilities. A small shop is to hand for basic supplies, but both Bransgore and Burley are only two miles away if you need anything else – maybe see how fast you can run there and back...?

What customers say

Lovely New Forest spot, loads of outdoor fun for families. Staff are dead sound, pitches grand, and facilities top-notch. Activities are a big hit, though some reckon they're dear. A bit of plane and camper noise, and some toilets could be cleaner. Still, a grand family adventure site.

Non-electric grass pitch (no pets, lake view)

Liked Activities were great. Very clean facilities.

Disliked Eco toilet - would have loved to use it at night, but makes such a horrific noise, would have woken everyone up. Plus so very dark, hard to close the door to lock. It really needs a proper toilet there where it's most used mid camp, with good lighting.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch (woodland, pet friendly)

Liked Staff all friendly, activities good kids really enjoyed them.

Disliked The state of the grass areas, very very dusty, grass obviously not watered through the summer. The dust was so bad I have had to erect my awning at home to try and get it clean.

Electric grass pitch (no pets, lake view)

Liked We have been here 5 times over the years and we always stay lakeside. Never disappointed plenty of space for pitch and kids to play the park is a great addition. We have in the past enjoyed onsite activities and we love the lake activities the most. And we will be back.

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch (forest, pet friendly)

Liked Beautiful site with lots of playgrounds and activities, my son struggled on the high ropes and the instructor was absolutely brilliant with him. The facilities are nice and clean.

Disliked They really pack you in like sardines. I imagine it's a better site for group bookings as we really would have liked a bit more space, there was less than a metre between tents.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch (woodland, pet friendly)

Liked Easy to find, Helpful Staff. Everything we needed for our stay! Good location.

Disliked Pitches were a little confusing but once you figured out boarders was Ok - Other people not so smart though! So had someone ‘living on our doorstep’ for the last night as they set the tent up too close!

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch (forest, pet friendly)

Liked All staff positively engaged each time I needed to speak to them. The young woman working the cafe on her own on the night of 30/08/25 deserves a bonus. High volume of food output, high volume of sales and still great customer interaction. Good campus, great activities. Facilities were generally clean. Well positioned for exploring the forest by bike.

Disliked Nothing really, it s on the Bournemouth flight path but I’ve camped a couple of miles away and it’s still just as noisy.

Local attractions

Several bike tracks start directly from the site, so pack a picnic and head off into the New Forest to find your own adventure – perhaps you might fancy a pedal to the Dorset and Hampshire beaches of Christchurch, Mideford, Southbourne or Highcliffe...? The sands of Bournemouth are about 10 miles away. Around the New Forest, the many places to see include the New Forest Wildlife Park in Southampton, an ancient natural woodland and wildlife haven (look out for otters and owls); the award-winning National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, and Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre at Ringwood. Pipsqeaks have the home of Peppa Pig World at Paultons Family Theme Park 30 minutes away for actively exciting day out, as well as the hands-on activities and indoor and outdoor play areas of Longdown Dairy Farm in Southampton and the Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester. Naturally, they might like trekking with a New Forest pony too.
