  • Peaceful site surrounded by lakes, on the edge of the New Forest
  • Bookable activities including high ropes, climbing and abseiling
  • Play area, table tennis, café and shop; toilet blocks with hot showers
Set up camp for a night or several at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre and Campsite set in 65 acres in the New Forest, for guaranteed busy days among a wide range of forest adventures. Among the outdoor adventures and field study activities here (which must be booked in advance and are subject to availability), you can try high and low ropes, climbing and abseiling, archery, zipwire and heaps more under the eyes of its experienced instructors – or take yourself off under your own guidance for orienteering, treasure hunting, mountain biking and fishing in its lush surrounding lakes.... Happily, a café serving the likes of jacket potatoes, paninis etc is here too so that adventurers don't have far to forage when it comes to light bites, and if you need a day off from all the action the site also has a play area and free wifi. (Table tennis and kid-sized bouldering walls are around too if you really can't help yourself...) The several amenities blocks are well equipped with a toilet block with hot showers, a baby-changing room and washing-up facilities. A small shop is to hand for basic supplies, but both Bransgore and Burley are only two miles away if you need anything else – maybe see how fast you can run there and back...?

What customers say

Lovely woodland and lake setting with loads for families to do. Staff are dead sound and helpful. Facilities usually grand, though some mentioned unisex loos, weak showers, and the odd bit of muck. Noise from late campers and planes was a bother for some, and a few pitches were a bit lumpy. Still, most had a brilliant time and would head back.

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch (forest, pet friendly)

Liked All staff positively engaged each time I needed to speak to them. The young woman working the cafe on her own on the night of 30/08/25 deserves a bonus. High volume of food output, high volume of sales and still great customer interaction. Good campus, great activities. Facilities were generally clean. Well positioned for exploring the forest by bike.

Disliked Nothing really, it s on the Bournemouth flight path but I’ve camped a couple of miles away and it’s still just as noisy.

Non-electric grass pitch (no pets, lake view)

Liked The beautiful site situated in woodland. The wide range of activities available were excellent. The fact that everyone observed the quiet hours after 10pm which you don't find in many places.

Disliked The toilets often smelled unclean which was a shame and our freezer packs were stolen on the first day which meant we struggled to keep our food cold and therefore safe. This is not the fault of Avon Tyrrell but impacted our stay slightly.

Nice site with lots to do in great location, reasonably tight access.

Non-electric grass pitch (no pets, lake view)

Liked Lots to do from site
Able to find quiet space off pitch
Relaxed site
Location by forest for walks
Activities good (would be great to be able to buy a bundle rather than individual), nice to find some free activities available
Helpful reception and shop, cafe looked good but didn't visit it.

Disliked Seemed a bit tight, windy track to get onto field, slight wheel spin leaving up the hill. Didn't find many toilets or showers, queues at times. Sad to see litter around & lots of disgarded tent pegs on ground.

Electric grass pitch (no pets, lake view)

Liked Lots of activities on site to do, toilets cleaned regularly, not far from a number of beaches. Lovely setting and would return again but world request which pitch.

Disliked We lucked out on our pitch, but could see that many pitches were quite small and close together. Airplanes were flying low and were load due to an airport being close, wasnt to bad as didn’t start until 7am and generally stopped at 10pm but was unaware off before arrival.

Electric grass and earth tent pitch (woodland, no pets)

Liked Space, set out of the pitches was good and shop well priced! Staff came across were good and the archery teacher was fab!

Disliked Toilets/showers by reception weren’t great.. water leaking into the loos. Thankfully we were close to boat house so could use those instead just a further walk

Electric grass pitch (no pets, lake view)

Liked The space, different areas had their own play field, cafe good food,

Disliked The lack of availability for activities, the lack of equipment (bring your own table tennis bat and ball) no cafe/seating around the lakes. Busy showers and toilets, not enough. Sloping and bumpy pitches

Recommend to friends Visit again

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch (forest, pet friendly)

Liked This is our 2nd visit as a group of 5 families. The location is great and there is a lot to do on site, and in the surrounding area. The children loved the freedom of the cycle routes and playing in the forest - we hardly saw them! We also tried the kayaking which was OK, but a bit disorganised. Cafe was great, and the shop was reasonably priced. Showers were nice and hot. We will return.

Disliked We were quite far from any toilets which wasn't great in the middle of the night! They need more facilities for campers. Often a queue to do the washing up, for the toilet or the shower. There is also no where to put/hang your things in some of the facilities.

Local attractions

Several bike tracks start directly from the site, so pack a picnic and head off into the New Forest to find your own adventure – perhaps you might fancy a pedal to the Dorset and Hampshire beaches of Christchurch, Mideford, Southbourne or Highcliffe...? The sands of Bournemouth are about 10 miles away. Around the New Forest, the many places to see include the New Forest Wildlife Park in Southampton, an ancient natural woodland and wildlife haven (look out for otters and owls); the award-winning National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, and Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre at Ringwood. Pipsqeaks have the home of Peppa Pig World at Paultons Family Theme Park 30 minutes away for actively exciting day out, as well as the hands-on activities and indoor and outdoor play areas of Longdown Dairy Farm in Southampton and the Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester. Naturally, they might like trekking with a New Forest pony too.
