  • Peaceful family-friendly farm site in Hampshire's Test Valley
  • Stonehenge, New Forest and Highclere Castle within 40 minutes' drive
  • Farm shop, café and two pubs within a five-minute drive
Fancy checking out some national treasures in the Test Valley? Then treat yourself to a stay at Rowbury Farm Camping, a fab spot in the Hampshire countryside with views towards Andover and the Iron Age hill fort of Danebury. Danebury is just one of the heritage sites and scenic spots close by: Stonehenge is half an hour's drive away, and the farm is in the middle of a cluster of national parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, including the New Forest and the North Wessex Downs. The site is made up of a quiet, simple and green 11-acre field, much of which is covered in wildflowers, with mown pitches scattered throughout. The friendly owners support recycling on site and ask that there's no loud music or parties so everyone, wildlife included, can relish the peace. There are large firepits around the site where guests can gather round the flames to sizzle sausages or even braise wild boar if that's your bag… For other food, it's a five-minute drive to a farm shop with attached café; there are two good pubs with food within a similar distance and it's a 10-minute drive to shops and supermarkets in Stockbridge.

What customers say

Idyllic site with private, wildflower-lined pitches. Spotless loos & showers with plenty of hot water. Claire & the staff are sound. Lovely walks, handy for villages. Some aircraft noise, but few complaints & folks want to come back.

Liked The camp site was perfect , quiet , well maintained and is in a really beautiful spot

Disliked Unfortunately was met with odd attitudes by a member of staff on site. I dried the seal of my waterproof bag to get it to seal for 10 seconds and I was approached by a member of staff who rushed towards me and said “ you know thatssss not dry dry use and attempted to use hand signs in my face “ this made no sense and he was attempting to talk to me like I didn’t speak English after speaking in a Yorkshire accent (black Yorkshireman) and replied with excuse me I just needed to use the air . He informed me that it’s not its purpose and it will burn the element out . I said okay and stopped using it , despite seeing people use it for things other than hands and for like 15 mins. He then proceeded to stop what he was doing and watch me around the facilities constantly and stare and he only seemed to approach facilities when I approached and he would watch me like a hawk . I went to use the shower and he’d wait around and I felt like I was being targeted. A very uncomfortable experience and it’s a shame as the site itself was lovely

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Toilet paper well stocked!
Clean toilets and shower rooms.

The team are really friendly and there’s no hard and fast rules of when to turn up and pitch. It’s a lovely and relaxed place in a beautiful part of Hampshire.

It’s close to all the historic towns if you fancy that, Winchester, Salisbury, Southampton but Andover is a small town that has everything you need really. Close to the tourist spots of Stonehenge and Avebury as well. It’s a great place if you want to have a stopover before heading to the West Country.

The addition of the morning coffee and pastry van was really handy and they have added seating areas which is nice.

The pitches are well laid out with plenty of space and nicely kept so they are level and there’s a good level of privacy if you prefer that, which we do!

We will be back next year!

Disliked Missed having the fire pits this year, but completely understand why that wasn’t an option!

There were a lot of large groups with kids this year, may have been because it was bank holiday, but if you don’t want that, you may want to look at adult only sites.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Fantastic location, large pitches and hot showers. Lovely people running it with coffee/pastries being served at weekends, and produce available from their cottage garden. It’s quiet too, very low local traffic nearby and a great pub 5 mins away.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Location was perfect as visiting Thruxton, but would go back again anyway as the site was quiet and had everything I needed.
The pitches are very well maintained, coupled with the relaxed atmosphere and perfect approach of the father and daughter owners, it made a perfect stay.
Very well priced.

Disliked Honestly, absolutely nothing!

Local attractions

In terms of sights and activities there are some headline acts around here, but you can pass an easy half day or two without straying too far. Footpaths crisscross the local area (one leading to Danebury's Iron Age fort), and National Cycle Route 246 also passes right by: this is a spectacular stretch you can pedal all the way through the North Wessex Downs up into Berkshire. Similarly close by, splat each other with paintballs and shoot each other with lasers a two-minute drive away at the local activity centre, or zip through the treetops on wires and ropes at Treerunners (10 minutes). For a more sedate time, tour the vines and sip the wines at Cottonworth, five minutes away. It's a half-hour drive to Neolithic Stonehenge and a similar distance to Highclere Castle, in use in one form or another since the eighth century and most recently as the set for British TV hit Downton Abbey. The surrounding North Wessex Downs are fine walking country, just as the elegant stately home and gardens at Hinton Ampner (40 minutes) make a good intro to the South Downs. More top walks and wildlife spotting can be had as the National Nature Reserve of ancient Langley Wood (40 minutes away) merges with the New Forest. To see some of that wildlife close up, the Hawk Conservancy Trust is 15 minutes away, with feeding and flying displays from the resident raptors.
