  • Simple but secure wild-style camping just outside Clacton-on-Sea
  • Beach 20 minutes' walk away; adventure farm park next door
  • Dog-friendly site surrounded by a 7-foot fence for safety
Simple, but safe and secure – that’s the setup at West Road Camping, in a green spot just outside the buzzy seaside town of Clacton-on-Sea. This Essex pop-up site covers two acres, and with only a handful of guests allowed on site at any time there’s always plenty of space for everyone to chill out. Families and groups are both welcome to stay here, and the whole two-acre site is surrounded with a seven-foot fence for everyone’s safety (excellent news for those who’d like to bring a dog, or let their kids run free without worrying about them). There's also a secure car park accessed via keycode to keep everyone safe. The vibe here is one of almost-wild camping: there’s a portable toilet and a cooking area (with barbecue/firepit) but please note no showers or running water on site. Handy facilities are a short walk away, however – including a convenience store, a pub and a fish and chip shop. The nearest beach access is a little under a mile away, with the centre of Clacton about half an hour’s walk (or five minutes' drive) for shops and places to eat as well as time on the beach or pier. The long sandy beach is likely to fill much of your time here, but if you'd like a bit of variety it's handy to know that there's a farm park next door and a golf park a short walk away, and Colchester Zoo is a little over a half-hour drive away.

Non-electric grass and gravel tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great location.
Perfect for visiting surrounding area.
Large camp field with plenty of space.
Farm right next door for a great day out.
Children enjoyed the experience:-)

Disliked Grass has a lot of spiked plants which my children got stung by. Grass also left an orange colour on all our shoes so don’t bring your favourite trainers!
