  • A couples’ sleeping pod up-cycled from an observatory in East Sussex
  • Battle Abbey and Bodiam Castle 15 minutes’ drive; Rye 20 minutes
  • Private shower hut plus garden and wildlife pond overlooking farmland
Fancy an East Sussex break with your beloved in accommodation with a real difference? Right in the middle of 1066 Country and 20 minutes’ drive from Hastings, The Moon Pod at Westfield was once an observatory… bet you didn’t expect that. Compact it might be, but the pod still serves up a deluxe double bed with hypoallergenic bedding, tea/coffee-making facilities and a double power socket for charging your devices – there’s plenty of under-bed storage space too. Outside, you have an exclusive-use composting toilet, together with an efficient hot shower and a washing-up area. Guests also have exclusive use of the patio, brick barbecue and firepit (logs and kindling can be purchased from the on-site honesty box), dining table, chairs and parasol, plus a lawned garden for picnics and general chilling. A hive of wildlife activity, the garden overlooks farmland and is visited by woodpeckers and greenfinches. Buzzards are often seen overhead, rabbits run riot from their warrens and the mini-pond is home to frogs and toads – take a torch to spot them after dark, and of course keep an eye on the stars above you in this well-known dark skies area. Secure storage for bikes is available upon request, and guests have designated off-road parking at the front of the house.
