  • Peaceful and spacious wildlife haven in the smart Ashton Hall Estate
  • Lancaster city and the Forest of Bowland both within six miles
  • An 11-hole seaview golf course, woodland walks and fishing in the Lune
Rock up here for a restful retreat among the comely grounds of Ashton Hall Caravan Park… Within Ashton Hall’s extensive estate are an 11-hole golf course with spectacular seaward vista, as well as a garden centre and café, all bordered by ancient woodlands and the River Lune, and direct access to the Lancashire Coastal Way and the Lune Estuary Footpath. Your holiday days will surely fill up quickly with all there is to do around the locale too – if you manage to tear yourself away from the site, that is – as the Forest of Bowland, the Lune Estuary and Lancaster city are all within six miles. On site, there's loads of room to wander around the grounds or in the adjoining forest for woodland walking routes, nature trails and cycle paths, many of which will take you from the site directly to the banks of the River Lune. On top of all this, the site takes pride in its sparklingly clean unisex toilet and shower facilities in a modern stone-built bathroom block with underfloor heating. The building includes an accessible bathroom/ family facility, a vanity area with washbasins, big mirrors and a hairdryer, a laundry room with washing machines and tumble dryers, and a covered washing-up area – like the site itself, the amenities block is safely secure and accessed via a secure key code. A local pub and restaurant lies within a mile of the estate, and Lancaster is three miles away.

Seafield fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Communications from the site were very good.Prior arrangements - security barrier and toilet codes and pitch number were sent in advance by SMS and email as indicated. The advice to avoid narrow lanes and the best route to use was very helpful. The toilet/shower block was clean and well-equipped. Fairly good TV signal.

Disliked: The pitches and grassed areas were in need of maintenance/repair - There is a general “unkempt” feeling about these and some general work to tidy up the pitches is overdue. Considering the price of the site, this would seem prudent in view of the standards of similarly priced sites. WiFi not available but can be accessed at neighbouring garden centre.

Lune fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: The seclusion of the site and the walking directly off site

Disliked: There was some heavy rain and the grassed area of the pitches got a bit boggy. If there is rain forecast it may be advisable to pitch your awning on the hardstanding

Lune fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Shower and toilet block : these facilities were very good, underfloor heating and modern . Location good - access to cycle path excellent , proximity to garden centre with its cafe and golf club with bar a bonus.

Disliked: Pitches were poor : the hard standing was narrow, uneven and muddy , the grass areas were uneven and prone to flooding as water ran down from an embankment behind . We were asked not to pitch awnings on grass - made the pitches quite challenging

Lune fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: The area, lovely wooded area around. Great for wildlife watching. Nice and quiet as well.

Disliked: Site needs serious work on the pitch areas. Sold as fully serviced hardstanding & grass pitch.
Hardstanding uneven with small rocks and stones, tram lines, would not be suitable for mounting awning or to walk out on.
The grass area is a boggy meadow , it is not maintained, local plant life grows in abundance throughout it but in the time we were there after all the heavy rain, even in the days that followed with full sunshine it is like a squelchy boggy Meadow. We had to take our awning down after a few days as all we were doing was walking mud into our caravan.. we had to move the caravan right over to the edge of the so-called hard standing area so that we were no longer walking in mud into it…. I have stayed on far better sites for a lot less money, that had proper drainage and a decent hardstanding area. Some people want to use their awnings when they go away & this is not a site where you use an awning.
If you are just taking your Caravan or a motorhome then that would be fine without the use of an awning.
Also did not appreciate the fact that we had an email the night before we were leaving at 10 pm to say the site had a lot of rain, you could either pitch your awning on the hard standing (no way that was not suitable or put it on the grass without no ground sheet). Well it isn’t grass it’s Meadow.
The only way you could pitch it on what is supposed to be the hard standing area which isn’t was to get the caravan over which meant that your awning would be on part of the hardstanding and on the grass (not allowed to drive on the grass!) it was a no-win situation all round when it came to your awning.
Also advertised as a full service pitch except that the tap and the water drainage is so far away from your caravan that you can’t physically get your pipework to reach any of it and we have long pipework!
As already mentioned the only thing this site has going for it is the fact that you have all the beauty of nature around you and it is quiet.
Shower block is not cleaned on a daily basis or if it is they don’t do a very thorough job of it. It is great that it has underfloor heating yes brilliant.
The shower was so hot, we could not stand underneath them. I could not see any way of adjusting them either.!
The site is not manned in any way there is no reception, no one to greet you, you are sent a passcode to get in the barrier and a passcode to get into the toilet/shower block that is it.
There is a washing machine and a tumble dryer in the shower block. Ridiculous price for the washing machine Cost £8 to do one load on a 45 minute wash.! Bit like the crypton factor on how you used the unit on the wall behind the machine where you just kept feeding it with £1 coins, (needed to give a definite cost for a set number of minutes) not knowing how much it was going to use! The washing machine would stop the cycle when it run out of money so when you went back, you had to feed it more!
I hope this review helps you decide if this is the place for you to spend your holiday.. a lot of the time people were just coming up for one or two days probably like a stop over and mostly in motorhomes. We booked to stay there for 10 days, we made it quite clear that we were bringing an awning, had we known otherwise what the site was like we would not have stayed there.

Lune fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Location was good, right near the cycle/walk path to local places of interest. The shower/toilet block were clean and good. Good facilities for chemical waste and washing up.

Disliked: Grey waste was tipped by fresh water supply, not very hygienic. The hard core stands are dreadful… not wide enough for caravan and awning - your awning is going to be on the sodden/mucky grass. The hard core is so uneven that the best floor covering couldn’t disguise the uneven surface. The grass is too long between pitches and the drainage is horrendous - inside the awning and outside was like a marsh, everything is filthy dirty from the flooded sites. Real lack of care from the owners…
