Views of Black Combe to the north

General

  • Spacious, friendly site on the Cumbrian coast
  • Fell walks, Lakes Coniston and Windermere within 45 minutes' drive
  • A few minutes from pubs, chip shop, dog-friendly beach and watersports

How’s this for having your cake and eating it? Harbour Lights Campsite is a couple of minutes’ walk from Haverigg beach on the Cumbrian coast – and behind it, with trails beginning 15 minutes' drive away, the famed hills and fells of the Lake District (not to mention those lakes themselves). No more tough choices, have the lot here.

If you have any problems on this Cumbrian cracker of a site, it’ll be deciding what to do first. You could start by taking in the view: sunsets over the beach and sea with the hills looming in the background; on this friendly, well-kept but unfussy site there’s little to get in between you and the grand surroundings.

Don’t fancy missing a minute in the open air? No problem, barbecues and firepits are all to hand (as well as a guest kitchen just in case you do decide to retreat indoors).

Dogs are welcome on site, on the beach next door and in many of the nearby pubs. On that note, there are places to sip and sup in Haverigg, and more of the same plus supermarkets in Millom, both about five minutes' drive away.

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The Ski Bar in Port Haverigg Marina Village is open to all; no membership is required.

That No Contact or Acknowledgement was recieved from the site even after contacting on x2 separate occassions due to a Bereavment in the family!

    Disliked:

I had a bereavment in the family and contacted the site via email on the morning, day of check-in to advise. Had to leave a voicemail later in evening as no answer received (due to time of year maybe). However would have appreciated some acknowledgment!!
I had to divert to London to be with my family.
I would have been fine if my stay wouldn't have been able to be changed, however find it very insensitive that no acknowledgement was received!
I paid in full at time of booking, which was way over the amount of other sites, £69 for 2 nights! unfortunately life throws us lemons sometimes! Poor Service!

Great location by the sea, near village with fish and chips shop, two pubs, working men's club, post office and a small well stocked supper market. Toilets/shower blocks very clean.
Great for easy walks by the sea looking for the abundance of wildlife. Pod was warm, great to be able to have a fire pit. The use of a microwave, toaster and freezer came in handy.

Site is right on the beach, the dogs loved it. Great walk round the lagoon, took us a couple of hours but learned a lot about the area and its history. Little Londis shop in the village and a couple of pubs and a chip shop so no need to drive motorhome anywhere. Pitches were lovely and level and neat and tidy. Owner and staff all friendly as were the locals. Enjoyed our stay and will visit again in the summer. Good reception for TV but did not try internet as not that bothered about staying connected while away.

    Disliked:

The water taps to fill up the motorhome were behind the shower block and we had to park between the blocks to fill up and were blocking the access to the area being developed, not a problem on this visit as out of season but could do with a tap near reception to fill up before you pitch and also a drain to get rid of grey waste when leaving. Other than that the facilities were fine.

Local attractions

Haverigg’s wide sandy beach is fab for walks, castle building and kite-based antics, from flying them to being hauled along the sands in buggies at high speed. If you’re after activities on the water, Port Haverigg Wakepark five minutes’ drive away has something wet and wild for everyone.

Without straying too far, you can also go horse trekking through the countryside and galloping on the beach from Murthwaite Green trekking centre, or get your kicks with wheels and mud included at Haverigg Motocross Track (both 10 minutes).

For walks with wildlife, it’s five minutes to RSPB Hodbarrow, where hosts of rare birds and plants thrive in the distinctive wetland environment. If you want to get higher, Black Combe is officially England’s biggest hill, 30 feet short of being a mountain and accessible by trails starting about 15 minutes' drive away in Wicham. Walks up the famed Old Man and surrounding fells start in Coniston, 40 minutes away.

For lakes, well, take your pick… Windermere is 45 minutes away, for boat cruises, steamer trips and watersports as well as lakeside walks and cycling.

Families make for Muncaster Castle (half an hour), on account of its Harry Potter-like appearance, resident ghost, adventure trails and playground and its Hawk and Owl centre with regular feeding and flying shows. For even wilder wildlife, the South Lakes Safari Zoo is 40 minutes away or you can Go Ape yourselves at Grizedale, zipping through the forest treetops on wires and ropeways (50 minutes).

Must see

  • South Lakes Wild Animal Park (4.9 miles)
