What customers say

Tá Pennine View iontach, leis na saoráidí foirfe, foireann an-chairdiúil, agus suíomh iontach le haghaidh siúlóidí. Ba thaitin an t-óstán Engine Shed go mór leis na cuairteoirí. Is breá linn filleadh! Tugann roinnt aíonna faoi deara torann bóthair agus gá le hathchóiriú ar roinnt saoráidí.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Excellent level pitch great size and nice grass. Facilities all good especially showers great pressure and no timers. There is a bar and small food area called The Engine Shed which is very roomy nice bar and different food menus on during week open from 4-10 pm. Decent walks around from the site and not a bad little town with plenty of cafes and restaurants and bars.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (six person)

Liked Beautiful little site. The onsite bar is stunning, river walk was great for the kids to go down and play in the river too!
Only a 15 min walk into town, so close enough but not so close.

Disliked I guess for a family park, there could be more for little ones to do onsite. But for a small site the little park wasn’t unreasonable.

Electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked Beautiful Surroundings and well kept site there were a lot of tourers on site and it was quite busy but everything was well organised and kept nice.

There is a nice variety of guest vendors in the engine shed over the week, we sampled the pizzas and they were nice and well priced.

The main facilities are lovely, clean , hot water a plenty and well looked after.

There is access via some very steep steps to the river which was a lovely break for my teenager and cocker spaniel in the intense heat we had.

There are some lovely views and wildlife at the Park, we often saw rabbits running about happily of an evening. The surrounding area is beautiful and the town is only a short walk away.

Disliked The pitch we were on ( c9) backed onto the water source and camping toilets/showers and a lot of campers were very inconsiderate when using these at gone midnight and from 5am very loudly despite us being a couple of feet away trying to sleep. The same with allowing their children to run around and behind our tents well after dark, spooking our dog, much later than quiet time.

The camping toilets and showers weren't the nicest or cleanest so we walked down to the main block instead.

On the Thursday evening, what seemed like locals youngsters ( around 30 or so) celebrating their a level results came to the gardeb bar area, they were very rowdy and their language was appalling, to a point we moved tables to the other side of the garden area.

Drinks in the bar were very expensive.

Local attractions

Walking routes start from the site and crisscross all over the nearby Yorkshire Dales National Park, around local town Kirkby Stephen, up the Howgill Fells and through the countryside of the Eden Valley. To see it all from way up high, paragliding is available within half a mile of Pennine View. The nearby River Eden has some spectacular fishing, all accessible a mile from the site. Wild brown trout are the main haul on the stretch of river managed by the Kirkby Stephen & District Angling Association, whose members are happy to take visitors out along the water (remember you'll need a fishing permit). Day tickets are available, with free fishing for under-18s. Horse riding can be had four miles away, and the mountain bike trails in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Beauty within five. The waters, boating and miles more walks of the Lake District National Park are 10 miles away. If you want to see how folk have lived in the area throughout the centuries, the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes is a good place to start; happily, the town is home to the Wensleydale Creamery too.
