  • Lake District pop-up site in the foothills of Blencathra
  • Keswick, Skiddaw and Helvellyn all within a 10-minute drive
  • Simple, spacious pitches with a stream for paddling
The owners of Low Hollows reckon they’ve got one of the most stunning locations in the Lake District… and it’s easy to see why they love it. This Cumbria pop-up site is in the foothills of Blencathra, so it’s a scenic place, and it’s easy to get to as well – it's just a little way off the A66. That handy position means that it’s easy to get to the village of Threlkeld, a mile away, for two excellent pubs and a coffee shop – or continue on to the bigger market town of Keswick, less than 10 minutes’ drive away. The Keswick to Penrith bus route stops in the village too, so you can get out and about easily without taking the car. And where might your outings take you? Well, it’s all about the open air around here: climbing, horse riding, canoeing and shooting are all within five miles, and there’s a golf course less than a mile away. Cyclists can head out on the C2C (Coast to Coast) route from the village, while walkers take strolls along the Keswick to Threlkeld railway line path. More intrepid types can tick off several Lakeland fells nearby, including Skiddaw and Helvellyn as well as Blencathra. Sounds rather like you’ll need time to chill out back on site – and handily there’s plenty of space for that, plus a stream for soothing tired feet. Barbecues are permitted on the pitches, and you’re welcome to bring dogs and kids (there’s a whole lot of field for them to scamper about in). Facilities are on the low-key side, with just showers and toilets (two of each for the ladies and gents) and a washing-up area.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Great simple campsite at a low price. For such a low price I was pleasantly surprised by the showers and toilets. We managed to cook in the bivvy area when it was raining too. Walked to both the white horse and farrier pubs - 20 mins either direction off the main road. Was fairly quiet when we were here.

Disliked: As mentioned elsewhere there is a bit of a slant to the campsite but not the end of the world. Nice views along the valley as a result! Traffic noise isn’t zero during the day, but quiet at night.

Liked: Super close to Keswick town, all basic facilities needed including hot showers and toilets. Plenty of space on site to be far enough away from other campers if you just want your own space to enjoy and take it all in, our second time staying here

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Danika greeted us with a a warm smile and straight forward instructions on everything on site. Even her dog Nova had a waggy tail. The site itself is simple and functional. There are shower/toilet facilities and large sinks for washing up. The area available to pitch up is huge with plenty of space for all sizes of tent and campervan. Although Pitch-up quote a booking in time, the site itself welcomes you after 09:00hrs to 23:00hrs, which is really good to know for our next visit. The site is towards the bottom of a valley so is sloped but has plenty of area for fairly level ground. Having said that the views along the valley and up towards the mountain ranges are stunning. You can also hire a fire pit (£5 per night at time of writing) and also buy wood when in stock. If you have your own fire pit this is also welcome.

Disliked: Nothing!!!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Location of the campsite was great - only a 10minute drive into Keswick and surrounded by beautiful scenery. Washing up facilities - washing up liquid and sponges provided.

Disliked: Campsite was on a slope and uneven ground, you had to be very mindful when pitching your tent in order to avoid being on a complete slope. Only x4 showers and toilets on the campsite - x2 for women and x2 for men. Not enough when the campsite is quite busy, you end up having to queue for quite a while.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Good location nice setting, wasn’t much info when we got here and we camped on the top field which is on a slope and hard to find a flat spot,if I come again I would prefer to camp on the lower field near the stream, some noisemakers on the first night that had music on until 4am and someone else took the toilet roll to light their bbq but this wasn’t the owners fault although their presence would have been a help.Apart from that I would come again and would recommend anyone to stay here.

Disliked: Field
