Park setting

  • Friendly well-maintained park on the banks of Wooler Water
  • Lounge bar, restaurant and entertainment in peak season
  • A 10-minute walk to the medieval market town of Wooler
Avoid the hordes crawling to the south-west coast and breeze your way to a little gem on the edge of the Northumberland National Park instead… Riverside Country Park is a friendly, well-maintained site on the banks of Wooler Water, with plenty to appeal to the whole family: perhaps pottering around the riverbanks and stunning woodland, splashing about in the indoor swimming pool, baiting rods for a bit of fly fishing, or a few rounds of pool in the games room. The park has good essential amenities, including a lounge bar and restaurant with Sky Sports and BT Sports, a shop, launderette, play area and entertainment over peak season.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The river.

Disliked: The size of the pitch and the shower facilities. The showers were freezing and water ran for less than ten seconds before switching off.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Good location on outskirts of the town of Wooler, easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. Great location for base for walking the Cheviot hills. Pitches were level

Disliked: Touring pitches are tightly packed and hardstanding was gravel with more weeds than gravel. There were also a lot of deep water filled holes beside the majority of pitches. Site facilities were basic and shower and toilet block was covered in mould. Area for emptying waste was overgrown with weeds. Showers had shower curtains that attached themselves to your legs whilst showering and showers were push button that only lasted about 6 seconds per press. Toilets and urinals leaked and some toilets weren't attached to the floor. Despite advertised free WiFi it does not work and had to go back into the reception area to get the password. No shop on site.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Not a lot to be honest, toilets outdated and needed cleaning… the washer and dryer was ok at £8.50 which isn’t a reason to revisit!

Disliked: We arrived to broken glass at the water tap (side of pitch 34).. reported to reception and it was still there when we left 3 days later!!!

Camping pod

Liked: The camping pod was clean and felt secure as I was there alone. I felt safe on site and everyone was lovely. I can’t wait to return.

Disliked: The area for getting ready in the showers could be a little bigger (but that’s the only negative I can think of)

Local attractions

Trip-trap over the bridge from Riverside Country Park to Wooler, a pretty medieval market town with some alluring eateries, pubs and shops, and the ideal starting point for walks into the Cheviot Hills and the Northumberland National Park. Cycling, fishing, golfing and horse riding fans will also find rich pickings nearby. If you haven’t explored the Northumberland coastline before, you’re in for a treat. Expect atmospheric ancient edifices in spectacular surroundings, such as Bamburgh Castle and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne; seaside villages like Seahouses, where you can jump aboard a sea safari boat to the Farne Islands; and miles and miles of nature reserves and wide sandy beaches. You can follow Hadrian’s Wall westbound from its start point in Wallsend, stopping off at Roman forts in scenic settings as you head in the direction of Carlisle; travel along peaceful country roads to explore the Scottish borders; or south to visit Alnwick Castle and the Alnwick Garden, contemporary gardens with one of the world’s biggest treehouses. For city lights, hit the A1 for an easy ride to Newcastle and Gateshead, both buzzing with culture (try the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art or a gig at the Sage Concert Hall), museums, football, restaurants, nightlife and shops; or head further north for a day trip to the many-splendoured delights of Edinburgh.
